The Court system needs to decide whether SYG applies in any given case, not the Police.The Police investigate the killing. The District Attorney, Grand Jury, Judge, and/or Jury should decide whether the Stand Your Ground law applies.
“Stand your ground” on your own property isn’t an invalid argument. But: making it a hunting license for out on the street IS the problem, which the Martin/Zimmerman case proved. Texas is even worse, when you can shoot people in the back, who are on your neighbor’s front lawn, and walking away, unarmed, and get away with it under their version.
These bills are developed primarily for cowards and gun nuts, not either “liberals”, “conservatives” OR legitimate rational gun owners. It’s the “preemptive defense” argument that is totally nuts.
This “liberal” made over 1,200 felony arrests, and didn’t “coddle”, nor shoot, any criminals in the process. In fact, the vast majority of police officers retire, never having fired their weapons except on the range. Those who think guns are the only way to “defend” yourself, or control “bad situations”, are idiots sucked in by bad TV writing (or movies), and the NRA.
Most of you are unwitting tools of ALEC (look it up), which writes the laws for lazy republican legislators. They are all for the benefit of corporations.
