I don’t see the problem. As a species, we have to work and we like to think. Everyone should have a job, and there is enough work to do to employ everyone (in a sensible economy). We need people in all sorts of jobs. Good work is a noble thing. There is nobility in being a carpenter, for instance. We need plumbers. We need engineers. We need farmers. I’m all in favor of an educational system that prepares people for the work that society needs. But there is no reason that a carpenter can’t be interested in literature or history or philosophy as well.

Great, if they’re contributing so much then they won’t need a handout from those who actually pay taxes.

Germany sits at 3.9% unemployment, in Canada we sit at 7.1%

Finally does it not occur to you that unemployment rose as

technology progressedincreased seniority structures in workforceEconomic crashSustained over last decadeObamacare only came into effect this year

Just a few factors, now you may keep some level of intellectual dignity had you perhaps said obamacare would be problematic towards a recovery, keeping some legitimacy.

That said this is all snooty elitism to you, so i suppose it does not matter, the logical process bares no place in the TEA public arena

Unlike years ago when you saw “Help Wanted” ads for philosophers all the time.

“I have three college degrees: Philosophy, Anthropology and Computer Science. Guess which two never provided a penny of income.”.Thanks for the chuckle.

According to Wikipedia, Socrates was a stonemason, a military veteran and served as a politician—but preferred the life of a philosopher. (Sources disagree whether he got paid for teaching philosophy, but he did point out his poverty at his trial.
