Great episode of “Alaska:The Last Frontier” last night on Discovery about fitting a home made bra on a cow with extremely irritated teats because of an overly hungry calf.Quite amusing. It’s a really good show, try to watch it and you’ll not complain anymore about your cushy life style.
“As for trying to prove it is not organic, good luck. The useful idiots have been trying very hard for years and failing.”
Gosh, I thought you were for State’s Rights. States have been inspecting and certifying organic growers for decades, and doing a good job of it. Apparently you are unaware of that.
I’m with you on USDA Organic certification, though. When the USDA decided to certify industrial agriculture as ‘organic’ They were willing to make all kinds of concessions to industry, while still labeling their product with a term people had come to have good cause to trust.
Those people were outraged, though, at the idea that the Feds were willing to label food grown with conventional chemicals, raw sewage acceptable for fertilizer use, and any other number of offenses as anything but industrially toxic food – we wrote to them. We got rid of the most egregious violations, but you are certainly right that USDA Organic is no label to take pride in. Even so, USDA Organic food should be somewhat less contaminated than it’s frank industrial cousin, since GM food is supposedly off that table. That at least should reduce the amount of Roundup in our diets. RoundUp is noticeably more toxic than it’s active ingredient, glyphosate, alone. RoundUp contains surfactants which allow the glyphosate to be driven deeper into the plant tissues, resulting in higher toxicities.

I’m inclined to favour my State’s certification, which I know to be sound. State certifying bodies test, and withdraw certification if violations are discovered. Since the Feds just elevated allowable glyphosate in our food, to help Monsanto out with their RoundUp resistant resistant weed problems, I wouldn’t count on seriously clean food from the Feds, certified organic or not.
Yes, USDA certification did hurt real organic farmers, and we’re getting less state certified organic, but that’s what I buy when I find it.
So if we can’t agree on what organic means, it is better to simply let her decide..
Organic can mean created by organismsIt can mean carbon based chemistryit can mean something nourished only by matter produced by organisms who were in turn only nourished by similar matter back to the beginning of time..We can be as silly as we wish although I still like that original container thought.

Wouldn’t that depend on what the cow has been eating? And whether she has been given antibiotics and/or hormones?

Well, we know it’s fresh; we can only assume the organic part. Now, if f it were liver, we could safely assume it’s organ-ic.

Based on that cow’s expression, I think it’s going to be sour.
