    Things going into the vacuum first encounter the fan blades. Not many bugs are likely to survive that.

    Actually, that’s not “above and beyond.” You don’t want to leave the bugs in the vacuum cleaner to escape back into the house.

    Some vacuum cleaners do have the fan in front of the bag. It tends to get damaged by metal things like paper clips (the fan is usually plastic) and if you vacuum up a piece of string it gets wrapped around the fan….
