Hmmm, spying that’s been going on for decades, going back to the OSS, and it’s suddenly a “surprise”? Friend or foe, the intelligence community, wrold-wide, has always been after what other countries, and AT HOME, have been up to. Anyone remember J.Edgar Hoover and his decades of picking HIS “enemies”, how about “Tailgunner” Joe McCarthy?
P.S. the FBI was long ago granted “permission” by Congress to spy on Americans, while the CIA was only supposed to go overseas. Don’t like the current situation? Look to the “Patriot Act” and the formation of “Homeland Security”, with 32 NEW AGENCIES or DEPARTMENTS to pry apart any “closed aspects” of your life.
Supporters either of the two major political parties can whine about how it’s the other party’s fault, but the sad fact is that nearly every congressman voted in favor of the Patriot Act and the increased powers of the NSA.
Agree that the Patriot Act has been a disaster for freedom and independence, but this cartoon perpetuates a misunderstanding between “listening in” and “collecting data.” Trust me, Average American, nobody thinks actually listening to your calls is worthwhile.
