Cable was originally by subscription & therefore paid by the viewer. One day, that wasn’t enough, so commercials showed up. It’s all $how biz & spotlight whores. We’re lucky some of it is actually the work of talented people who do deserve to be paid for entertaining us.

As pointed out by SNL – A&E; no longer about arts or entertainment.

Discovery Science shows science fiction. SyFy shows reality shows. Cartoon Channel shows live action comedies. G4 shows 80s movies. History Channel 2 shows ancient aliens. The channels are all switching themselves.

I’ve seen this subject commented on several times in the past few weeks here on GoComics. While it is lamentable what is happening on many of the channels, including ads appearing on the lower half of the screen while the show is going on, there are still some excellent channels available. The National Geographic channel has many animal and nature shows and the Smithsonian channel has really good history shows.

I’m seeing a lot of commercials in movie theaters nowadays. How did we let that happen?

Web cartoonist Kathy Garrison says that modern antenna and basic cable TV are the postapocalyptic wasteland left behind by people who can afford computers. Most programming appeals to trailer trash.
