All the folks signing up for the PPACA would disagree with the statement that folks don’t want it. Yes, it could have been shorter, and better, but it wouldn’t have gotten the necessary Republican support it got, even if limited, had it been better.
Right, Cora, but it was a ‘man-on-the-street’ segment on late-night humor show Jimmy Kimmel on ABC Tuesday. Here’s the 3:55 clip, and the NY Daily News‘ story about how people are so confused. Zuhlamon’s right, the Faux Noise effect is (unfortunately) working, and that’s ineffably sad.
Actually, when you describe the specifics of the ACA, most Americans favor most provisions, so the cartoon is largely accurate in practice, whether you agree with the comedy routine of “ACA versus Obamacare?” or not. Most Americans like the provisions of Obamacare:Tax credits for small businesses to buy insurance: 88% in favor.Closing the Medicare drug benefit doughnut hole: 81% in favor.Extension of dependent coverage to offspring up to age 26: 76% in favor.Expanding Medicaid: 71% in favor.Ban on exclusions for preexisting conditions: 66% in favor.Employer mandate: 57% in favor. http://www.latimes.com/business/hiltzik/la-fi-mh-obamacare-20131001,0,4909537.story
