“Obama/Reid policy – Cater to the ruling class elite and 1%. As for the rest , let them eat cake – no compromise!”

This is why liberals and progressives are turning against Mr. Obama: he’s acting just like a Republican.

Watching this develop for two years now on the ACA, when it comes to the “TEA party” candidates, and over the last five years the “cooperation” and “willingness to negotiate”, from Boehner and the boneheads and “space left blank on purpose” “leadership” of McConnell and morons like Cruz et al in the Senate, there are a LOT of words that are appropriate, but each would get this post bounced by the moderators…

The frustration caused me to “unload” on a friend of many years here who is both TEA party supporter, and ultra-right wing “conservative”, whom I’ve long been able to talk to and reason with, and still “get along” despite our political differences. He merely commented, like our local morons who don’t know anything about government, or most any issue, who are willing to parrot the “right wing garbage”, that “government” should be gone and is the source of all evil.

I told him when he has his next heart attack, don’t call for the ambulance, don’t use our public roads, and don’t go to our hospital ER that was constructed with “stimulus” money and federal grants, or call on the doctors who got government loans to go to college, or get drugs approved by and regulated for safety by the FDA,or the ones developed with federal grants to researchers. Then I got really “ticked off”.

“So you are admitting that Obama has failed to meet even the minimal standards of his base of support!”

Please do not put words in my mouth, although there is no doubt that much of his base of support is disappointed. If we had wanted a gutless, Wall-Street-coddling, spy-on-everyone end-justifies-the-means Republican, we would have voted for Mr. Romney.

That said, Mr. Obama has met minimal standards. First off, we have not put our troops in harm’s way in Iran and Syria, which I am convinced would be the case if Mr. Romney was in the White House. I am also pretty convinced that we will be much less likely to have another Scalia or Thomas added to the Supreme Court, and we are not seeing a push to reduce income (tax cuts) while increasing spending, which is a long-loved Republican fallacy. And although Obamacare is flawed, I welcome the fact that someone was willing to at least accept the fact that the health care system in this country is atrocious and not going to get better on its own, however basic of a concept that appears to be. I don’t see a single Republican idea to improve the situation. Every journey can contain mis-steps, but first you have to be willing to start the journey, which I will credit Mr. Obama for doing.

I rarely comment on things like this, but you really need to consider dropping this meme. Even though the highest tax rates were considerably higher at that time, the actual tax rates after deductions, etc, were not.
