    But now that we have career politicians who don’t care about the nation and simply want to buy the votes to keep them in office and a president who violates the law and the constitution on a daily basis, we have the banana republic.

    One of the advantages of a parliamentary form of government is that the executive and the legislative are from the same party. Thus, legislation is usually quicker and easier to pass. The ruling party gets to govern and if you disagree you get to vote them out the next election. In the presidential form of government, the executive and the legislature are often from different parties and stalemate too frequently occurs. In fact there may be incentive to prevent good legislation so as to make the executive look bad. I read somewhere that countries with parliamentary forms of government came through the recession in better shape than countries with a presidential form. I don’t know if that’s true, I think its possible in a general way..One thing you can say about the American form of presidential government – its good for media ratings.
