She sure sounded like Luann there. All complaints. Hmm. I wonder if this strip would benefit from a “Luann without Luann” approach like the “Garfield without Garfield” did. Might have to look into this one. Imagine today’s strip without any comment at all from Nancy. Just Frank’s comment and nothing else. She’s seems as self-absorbed as her daughter. Frank is just That Guy Who Sleeps with the Mom.

Somewhat similarly, this Fred Meyer near my new apartment doesn’t have this miso soup mix that this Albertson’s near my old apartment does have. It takes me about two buses to get to that Albertson’s!

I find that snack cakes like the kind made by Hostess, Tastycake and the like have changed their recipe, and instead of them being fresh and stuff, now it’s all “processed” tasting, and “preservative” flavored…. – And I miss the brick sized phones… these ones now? They’re just not the same….. there’s just no comparison!…with those ones, people would know that you’re on the phone…. – They stopped making music, too… can’t find a music CD, anywhere!…. – No more Yugos, either.. so many changes!….

I was noticing that trend happening, too… the “renaissance” of larger…. maybe people are missing the devices where they can actually see their screen, and the number “keys”…. of course, I guess people also would like the fact that the newer screens are larger, as “Angry Birds” have no room to be flung into the air on the smaller screen…

This actually, in a way, goes right along with today’s “Speed Bump”… where Superman experiences the disadvantages of a phone that has “Kryptonite mode”….and the phone could end up “crashing”… along with Superman and the damsel….

Wow! And it was just like yesterday that flip-phones were the thing, and now they’ve pretty much placed them in a museum!… I remember, too, when all of a sudden, everybody had pagers… – For a while, we had held onto some Nokia phones where the screen had the monochrome screen (like the digi-pets), and looked like mini walkie-talkies… we were thinking of taking them to a store, and asking the clerk if we could “get service for them!” (XD) … they probably would be functional, but just thinking of the looks that would generate on some clerk’s face…

I had a brand of moisturizer that I loved and when I found out they were going to stop making it, I went and bought up all my local store had. Still have one jar left. lol

But I know what she means and sometime it is not that they stop making the product but they change the way it is made, example:: My toothpaste, they stopped making the paste and went to all Gel types and I have a heck of a time finding the regular paste type and it is not the same formula as before. Why can’t they just leave well enough alone.

@temple, Fred Meyer (I believe) is part of the Kroger chain and Albertson’s is the same as Jewel when I go back east. You might look for one of the latter group nearer you. I have Alb in my nearest strip mall, but I drive 7 miles to Sprouts for all the good healthy organic stuff (and best produce prices because I make most from scratch)

Things that I really miss are a shade of lipstick and the type of eyebrow pencil (I have very sparse brows so I LOVED the pencils with replaceable leads of 0.7mm) I still have the pencils but no leads. My solution is to try Latisse on my brows (hopefully it will work as mine are not plucked, just sparse) too early to tell. Otherwise I use the taupe eyeliner pencils but they rub off (and I’d prefer just to fill in some hair).

Another thing that they don’t make anymore: A great pickup line! ….. I mean, I can’t understand why people have abandoned these classics: – “Girl, you must be a Dorito… cos you probably have great taste!”….– “Do you work for the power company? Cos I’m definitely feelin’ the electricity!”..– " No wonder your feet are all sore and sweaty and full of callouses! Cos you’ve been running all through my mind ever since you came through that door!“… – Are you an Aphid’s joint? Cos you seem like the ‘bees knees’ to me! Ah-chubbba -wubbba-wow! Merow!…” – You have a face that can stop a clock, because when I see you, time is all disappearing, not happening, and whatnot!… – You must have taken a lot of showers, to smell as good as you do! - Or the timeless classic that they used to teach in the old school, “I lost my phone number… can I have yours?”

MP3s and IPods made that happen. ^ No, I mean… real music, period… I didn’t say the MP3s MP4s and stuff, only because you don’t need a ‘brick and mortar’ for that… mine was going on the premise of buying music from the actual physical record shop… you can’t find any real music on the cds, there, even when it’s stocked full of them….

There’s always more than one topic/gag to disseminate from a comic strip… we were going where the “conversation” was flowing… happens all the time in the art world, music and on stage comedians…. what the creator thought was going to be the central thing sometimes is not what the crowd reacts to… it’s what makes art and creating so wonderful! – Even when you think it’s going to go one way, you can get surprised with people liking your stuff in ways you didn’t anticipate…. and just when you think you know a creator’s work, you get surprised by how there’s other levels in their work, too… it cuts both ways…

" Consider: You can get VD for free…"

Does anybody know any more what VD is? I mean, when the radiologist got so mad at me he stabbed himself with his own biopsy needle, he didn’t order a ‘VD panel’ (for me), he ordered an STD panel … which must have been clear, or I hope they would have notified me, which they didn’t. They didn’t charge us for it, though.

We don’t have any VD any more in this country. VD has been superceded by STDs.

Interestingly, I have seen some well kept players here and there, but I feel I get along without them, just fine… Lol! – But the reason I was saying it was just to state the fact that when Phillips introduced LaserDiscs, I don’t think they anticipated what would happen if the medium failed: that most of them would end up mistakenly chucked into piles with records… although you’d be able to tell the difference once you examine the packaging and all…. but some record stores that don’t really know their inventory so well (like Goodwill for example) will put them there, not really recognizing them….
