    Good morning, Vagabonds.

Sweetbill, the shutdown is over and all the national parks, monuments and recreation areas have reopened. Lake Mead, here in Nevada, was closed for the duration of the shutdown, but reopened last week when the government went back to work. (They even forced people who own homes on park land to vacate the homes for the duration. The assumption was that they were vacation homes and everyone had somewhere else to go. It isn’t true, and some folks were forced into hotels for a while. No one was willing to test the legality of the evictions, but I strongly suspect that there will be a lawsuit or two about it.)

    Good Morning, Vagabonds,

We went down for breakfast this morning to our favorite cafe. It is always nice to relax and enjoy a really good meal, then run into some friends for a little chat.

One more day to get the “outside” ready for our first big storm. They said this morning, that the “low” pressure has moved farther south into California, so we might get much less snow than the 6 to 8 inches we were expecting. That’s okay with me……..there is enough time for winter to come at us!

Jan, our Governor said “no” to paying to have the National Parks open during the shutdown. He knew that we’d get stuck holding the bill on that one, and felt that the parks were being closed down in 2 to 3 weeks anyway because of the weather, that it would be okay. I agreed with him on that call………..we shouldn’t have to foot the bill. However, one more visit to the park before the roads close will be a really big treat. (the motels around the park start shutting down the last week of September anyway, so services are few and far between).

    Good afternoon Vagabonds,

As you know I have been having a still neck and some pain in my rt. side. About 5 this morning I woke up with many parts of my upper body really aching like I have never felt before. Then when I got up to walk I had to use my wife’s walker as I couldn’t put much pressure on my left knee, so I made the decision to go to the ER and find out what was wrong. By the time I got there, about 8:30, half the pain had gone away. You figure that one out. Anyway they did all kinds of checks on my heart and my blood and about 3 EKG’s and all they could come up with was that I had strained my self. My heart was fine. PTL. I got home at about 3:30. I guess they didn’t want any thing to do with my knee, so I will call my Orthopedic Surgeon and have him take some x-rays and see what is going on.

    Life isn’t simple, is it?

Have what’s left of a good day for you.

Good morning, Vagabonds. I’m only up to page 200 in “The History of England” (I’m in the middle of the Hundred year War.) and only a quarter way through.

    Good Morning, Gang,

Woodworker…………all I can say is take care! Keep us posted on what the doc says! You did the right thing in going to the ER.

We are having a most gorgeous sunrise! Clear skies, with a few stringing clouds that have picked up the orange and pinks and gold of pre-sunrise. What a glorious day!

    Good morning, Vagabonds.

Yesterday and today, hubby & I put on the rest of the new “skins” on our spa. We bought the ones for the spa cover and the motor unit, because the installation guy said it would be much cheaper and it would be easy to do. He was right. We took a little extra time with the cover because the inner plastic lining had deteriorated in a few places, so we made sure to cover and seal anything that might admit moisture. Then we put the new cover on and it looks great. The motor housing was super easy, and took only about 10 minutes. Now the whole thing matches again! (We have a SofTub which is entirely foam and vinyl. Much cheaper to run than a conventional spa because the heat generated by the water pump is what actually heats the water. There is no separate heating element.)

The wind is blowing right now, and the sound of my wind chimes is very pleasant.
