Some here may not believe this, but I really do not wish to see just a one party system in the federal government. So, I do hope that the Tea Party types do not commit ritual political suicide for the Republican Party for the elections of 2014. They should remember just what such actions did for Bill Clinton in 1996, and the results for both the Republican Party, and in particular Newt Gingrich!!
Back when Clinton was trying to create a Single Payer health care system, Stuart Butler of the Heritage Foundation proposed a conservative alternative. It proposed a mandate for all Americans to buy health insurance from private insurers, with subsidies for the poor. Sound familiar? ;^) To quote Butler:“Mandate all households to obtain adequate insurance. Many states now require passengers in automobiles to wear seatbelts for their own protection. Many others require anybody driving a car to have liability insurance. But neither the federal government nor any state requires all households to protect themselves from the potentially catastrophic costs of a serious accident or illness. Under the Heritage plan, there would be such a requirement.”Butler has done an about face now that his plan has been made law. Rather than repealing, why don’t conservatives try to fix the problems they see with the ACA? Their argument that it was unconstitutional failed. Best to respond to the reality that it’s law, rather than keep failing at repeal, despite the costs to their party & their country.I can only conclude that conservatives were never serious about providing health care to the uninsured.
The cartoon is not funny. Mr. Pett forgets that Americans have, in order to make their “points”, attacked the Olympics (Erik Rudolph), a Federal Office building containing a daycare center(Tim McViegh) as well as those self destructive people who, not wishing to die alone, killed people in restaurants, schools, and other public venues in order to attract their death of choice, a bullet from a police officer. There are people who wish to be a hero/martyr for their causes and with all of the rhetoric on how the ACA is going to “destroy” America, someone might feel it’s time to do something, even if it’s wrong. There is also the fact that pigeonholing ALL Republicans and even ALL members of the tea party as extremists for their beliefs is unfair, divisive, and invites criticism, warranted or not, that ALL liberals want to take away all guns, tax the rich into poverty, and give gov’t ‘gifts’ to people whether they need them or not. The extremists are in the minority, they are not the majority. Release the pigeons from their holes and focus on the individual extremists in the parties and the media who are keeping the flames of fear and anger between neighbors in order to sell advertising, placated donors, and keep us from talking about some real candidates with real, long term ideas, that can make our nation great and restore our middle class, reduce our poverty class, and allow the rich to be the “job creators” we’ve been told they want to be.Respectfully,C.

I hope the radicals and extremists will listen to the regular GOP. There still are some who are normal, right.

The are the social glue that holds their groups together. No republican would ever support schools, healthcare or community. so it’s easy to tell the difference.

This may be why the founders didn’t want political parties.

I won’t (ask that is). This one makes no sense whatsoever… But, then again, neither does the Progressive Left in general.
