When we told my mother we were engaged, she told me, “Terrific! I love her!” To Kathy she said, “I hoped he’d have enough sense.” I think she approved. The two of them – just the two – even took a cruise together. At the time Kathy had more vacation time and disposable income; I only had more tolerance for Wyoming winters (that and an audition while they were gone). For Mom it was therapeutic – Dad had passed away the previous year.
