I’ve a habit of sometimes ordering a spendy item on the menu… even if the restaurant isn’t that well low-illuinated.

The more words used to describe the meal, the higher the cost.

Dimly lit restaurant, dotted with patrons trying to read the menu with their cell phones. How romantic!

Years ago I entered a Portland (OR) restaurant so dim that it had theater-style footlights beside each stair treader going up the tiered seating levels. I ordered a fish I’d never tried before and thought its texture was very unusual, until i held the plate under the dim light beside our table and realized I was actually eating a sliced mushroom on top of that filet. In France all the better restaurants are well lit, and the dives and bistros are dim — the opposite pertains in the USA.

The more I spend the worse the food tastes.

I don’t understand why people pay more for a meal that has been arranged “artistically” than one that hasn’t but tastes better. Some relatatives of mine once paid over £400 for a meal in a “celeb” restaurant..My sister in law was bragging for months about the cream teas served on a cruise. I’ve had better cream teas in a back street cafe.

All the better not to the prices with my dear.

the darker the resturant and the slower the service is the more expensive ones I like ones you can see in and not need a flash light to see

Guy once told Reader’s Digest about taking his date to one of those restaurants where only the man’s menu has the prices on it. As she scanned the priceless menu, she asked, “How much do you love me?” “More than the meatloaf,” he replied, “but not as much as the lobster.”

They are trying to hide the food, is all…

Even worse are the ones that don’t even put the prices on the menu.
