Val: Who wants a cocktail?
Alix: I DO!
Phil: One cosmo, one pale ale, and two Shirley Temples.
Holly: Who's Shirley? And how'd she get a drink named after her?
Alix: And don't we need I.D.??
Good move, Phil! Discriminating taste with the IPA, AND a “cocktail” for the girls! Shirley Temple can be explained later. As for the ring, this COULD be the moment! Sets up right, and has the girls involved also.
But a moment like this usually portends the end of a comic. I hope not! Too many “step-” story lines available.
The Shirley Temple may be renamed soon as few adults (much less kids) remember her in films. My parents were much into the films and music business and dad started as a band leader before he gave up back in 1935 and went into the family Realty business with one brother.
When my uncle got married, the reception was held in a German bar. My sister and I, being underage, drank Shirley Temples all evening. I love that blue-eyed, curly-topped little princess!

Nationality? American. Race? Black. So’s his aunt, who lives down the block from the Stones. And Wally’s Jewish.

At least a Shirley Temple is easier to order than a Virgin Mary.
