It’s very sad to see print going away “Journalism” has been eroded terribly for nearly three decades now. News agencies used to provide news, but are now mere “Entertainment tonight” or “Limbots” with big hair providing propaganda. AND, look at who OWNS the networks! Even those that DO have a few liberal commentators, are primarily the machine of the corporate “right”, not left.

Which, been watching Al Jazeera America, and it’s interesting their news coverage is MUCH more accurate, and detailed, than any of the other network or cable channels. Though there’s still some critics (yes, “liberal”) accusing them of being too “corporate controlled” (that’s interesting in itself) they do actually have presenters who can pronounce names and multi syllable words!!!

Their “special programming” is also very diverse and interesting to a wide variety of folks; for example their “special” on the Isle of Man motorcycle TT race was quite interesting! (My son races formula sidecar motorcycles and would love to run the Isle of Man course!)

Morty, I’d agree with your points, in general. Hmm, 60’s, interesting that folks, even my own family members did NOT want to know the truth of what was happening in Viet Nam, so the problem does go back a way. Which, I find folks like my son, 13 years in the Navy, including some 5 years “seeing the world” with the most select part of our military, DID learn something, and it’s interesting his statements on the "younger folks’ who are “mindless” in his classes now that he’s back in college. What is, at the same time, maybe promising, is that in several of his courses, like a philosophy class and world affairs class, the professors HAVE called upon his experiences to “educate” the rest of the class (including the fact some of those texts DO have it WRONG), and many of them HAVE become more involved and “alive” between their ears!! Maybe, yes, there’s hope?

Hmm, as I’m “basically Buddhist”, let’s hope the whole world doesn’t have to depend on karma to come back as a better place, next time around?

“Back in the 50s and 60s people were actually interested in how the country was doing, how it was run, what the relationship to other nations was. Gen Y changed that.”That’s not my experience. The Millenials I know are far, far more aware that there is a whole big world out there than most people were in the 50s & 60s. Americans weren’t any more knowledgeable about basic geography then, either.
