“The Majortity of Amercians are agianst any strike agaisnt Syria.. NBC News is source.”Yeah, well the majority of Americans want stronger background checks on gun purchases & a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants, too. NBC News is the source.

Tigger, you mean with the chemicals Reagan sold him? O’Donnell had some good data on that tonight.

Appeasement with Hitler didn’t work for Chamberlain in 1938 and it won’t work with tyrants using WMD in 2013. Sometimes you need to take a tough stand in the interests of World order and decency. Of all the misguided wars and military conquests that have gone on over the years, and then when a military deterrence is needed, the U.S. led International community wimps out – largely it seems for political reasons.

    1. A Cruise missile attack is not symbolic.2. Allowing a tyrannical dictator to use WMDs against innocent people is a threat to world peace, order, and decency.3. If you don’t think the use of WMDs doesn’t warrant deterrent action, don’t get self-righteous about courage.

Reminds me of an old Doonesbury cartoon where we fired a “Smart” missile into Iraq. It went through the building, with commentary, and out the other side, where it detonated “harmlessly”.

“……The message is clear. A majority of Americans do not trust Obama’s judgment, especially in foreign affairs……”.Or does Syria not have enough oil? Having WMDs in the form of tons of nerve gas and actually using it doesn’t seem to be sufficient motivation..“….. he has not given any hint that the many an’ varied consequences of such action have been thoroughly considered, anticipated and assessed as to how we would then deal with them …..”.Too bad that level of planning had not been implemented before the disastrous invasion of Iraq, which now seems to be “poisoning the water.”.“…….The “paper tiger president” doesn’t know what he’s doing……”.Whatever. Sure is an improvement.

A White Phosphorus barrage ought to show Assad who’s boss. Especially if the chemicals are dropped from unmanned drones!

Good questions, and the reasons are that chemical warfare represents a more terrible form of killing and warfare that International society has decided is not acceptable. It seems that even in killing there has to be rules. Chemical warfare is also more indiscriminate. It kills everything in its path – men, women, children, the old, the inform, your own, the innocent, domestic animals, and pets.

Bringing up the disastrous Bush invasion of Iraq is not done to make this administration look good. We are not in the business of picking the tallest dwarf. To properly understand and judge current events, one has to understand what went before and the effect on events. For example, we can’t blame the holocaust and its aftermath on Andrea Merkel, current Chancellor of Germany. The holocaust will forever be linked to Hitler..Similarly, the strong evidence that the analogy of the Iraq invasion “poisoning the waters” in influencing current policy and understanding people’s motivation, has to be considered..Not long ago choosing to ignore a blatant use of WMD and an International crime against humanity would have been described as “cut and run”, “capitulation”, “cowardice”, “weak on terror”, etc., etc. .What has happened? Is it Bush’s legacy; resentment of a black president; partisan politics; genuine not our problem; can’t afford it (Bush again); or combination thereof?.And this is not just America’s problem – it is international in scope..“Those who do not learn from history are bound to repeat it.” – George Santayana.
