    THEIR school district is actually logical, choosing to delay starting the school year until AFTER Labor Day. Unlike my local school district, which started classes last Wednesday only to have no school only three days into the school year due to Labor Day.

    I can’t speak for the north, but most schools in the country are air-conditioned, so they’re not exactly sweltering. If they weren’t at school in August, kids certainly wouldn’t be outside playing. They would be inside their air-conditioned homes watching TV or playing video games. Meanwhile, when our school gets out in May, my kids are outside playing because it’s much cooler then.

    Yes, Summer vacation doe shave its roots in an older, agrarian society. It eventually became n more than an expected tradition.
