Just last year the most black Americans ever voted in the national election. It broke the record set 4 years before that.I really don’t see a problem here, unless liberals are saying blacks aren’t smart enough to get an ID?Just another example of the patronizing attitude white liberal democrats use to tell blacks that they need somebody to hold their hand. Disgusting.

“Just last year the most black Americans ever voted in the national election. It broke the record set 4 years before that.”

Yup…absolutely true. And they turned out in droves precisely because the Republicans worked so hard to keep them away from the polls. Black people didn’t get the vote by standing hat in hand and begging Mistuh Charlie for their rights. They got the vote by organizing and fighting for it. And they have looooog memories.

Republican voter suppression, like so many other Republican “policies”, has precisely the opposite effect from what they think they are accomplishing. Trying so publicly to disenfranchise people who might not vote for you only gives them the incentive to organize and work to get out even more voters who really won’t vote for you.

We owe the Republicans a vote of gratitude for doing so much to turn out Democratic voters in the last election. We could never have engineered the massacre of the Republican candidate in the last election without their help.

Keep up the good work guys!

“Just last year the most black Americans ever voted in the national election”.You left out…and we must put a stop to that!

“Otherwise we’ll become completely irrelevant!” Yeah, keep trying to suppress the vote, GOP; you’ll only hasten your inevitable departure from political power.

They turned out in droves so lets cut polling hours, reduce early voting, close polling places anything to keep them at bay. And we all know that’s happening.

I still don’t get why people argue against having an ID to vote. How else are you going to prove citizenship and address. It can’t be cost. Depending on state it costs from $3 (FLA) to $29 (OREGON, but it lasts 8 yrs as opposed to 5 for most other states) with the average being around $15, so cost isn’t the real issue and it also helps raise revenue. You need a photo ID to cash checks at the local money store, to get a job or open a bank account, so it is a necessity, not a luxury. It’s just a copout by the Libs to protect their base.

ConserveGov: Over one third of Texas counties don’t even have a place to get an approved photo ID. Those that do are closed on Sundays and after working hours. The targeting of those who must work two jobs to live, who go to school, or are in nursing homes (and are disproportionately Democrat, Libertarian, or Green and thus not Republican) is obvious..Yeah, it’s a poll tax and is illegal in the US since that bald eagle ran Jim Crow off the flag pole in Bill Mauldin’s second Pullitzer.

“It doesn’t matter who votes, it matters who counts the votes.”—Josef Stalin

Easily-tampered voting machines are way more dangerous and way more capable of throwing elections as a couple of people who vote twice. Again, if you really want to reduce the likelihood of vote fraud, you need to address the voting machines. Put out the big fires first: always a good approach.

It ain’t just photo ID folks! It IS true that prior to the Civil rights act, the “old” southern Democrats were behind “Jim Crow”, but the parties switched radically after that act, as did the views AND actions, of legislators, “left”, and “right”.

“.There has only been one political activist at the polls with a weapon in modern times.”Still selling that pathetic story, onguard? How many Republican votes were lost? Zero. In 2006, a group calling themselves “Minutemen” stood outside a polling place in Tucson & questioned voters about their ability to speak English.. One carried a 9mm pistol, another videotaped voters, claiming they were looking for illegal immigrants. The DOJ declined to prosecute the case.Google “gun at polling place”, and you’ll discover that advocates of concealed carry and open carry laws have been deliberately taking their guns to churches and schools when they vote. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that none of them are liberals.

sorry joe you got it backwards as usual

while doing research for a city election in 2009 i found of the 70 people i know in my precinct who voted in 11/08 were 2 dead people [02/08 and 07/08] that is only 3% and i was not even looking very hard

in order to have a case you have to grab them in the act when i found a few months later that dead had voted nothing could be done

The original Jim Crow was in a song.Daddy Rice, a white man, went on the road in blackface singing and dancing. He became Jim Crow.He joined some minstrels and became somewhat famous.

“Do you mean the same 60’s Republicans that passed the Voting Civil Rights Act”Go learn your history, Gresch. The Republicans, in their last moment of decency, joined the majority of the Democrats who voted for the Civil Rights Act.Democrats provided far more votes for Civil Rights than Republicans. They couldn’t have passed it without the GOP’s help, but Civil Rights was & is an issue championed by liberals, not conservatives. Every southern Republican voted against Civil Rights.

“… thank a Democrat”Because, Blacks had it so good before 1964? The black middle class is larger than it was before Civil Rights, affirmative action & liberal anti-poverty programs. Blacks are still more likely to be poor, to have higher crime rates, etc. The reality is that most of those things are true of people living in poverty, regardless of race.

Unlike everything else that we use ID’s for, voting is a right, not a privilege. The US has practically no voter fraud whatsoever. This is a non-issue dressed up to hide the true motives of the people pushing it.

In an honest debate of this issue we would have to point out that the reason the Democrats want to get rid of voter i.d. laws is so that people who are here illegally can vote.If a human being isn’t resourceful enough to figure out a way to get a legal i.d., do we really want them in polls in the first place?
