I remember some time back they were discussing how grateful a neighbor should be because Burl told her that he had called the pound on her loose dog. If they were my neighbor I’d be tempted to put a flambe present at their front door.
Yes, I agree with Susan that the comment refers to Verla’s thick (more than swollen) ankles, and this bunch will never get a clue by trying to pinch the only places on the body where fat does not accumulate. .If they’ve gone anywhere near a mirror (or had a photo taken) they SHOULD know they are all grossly overweight, but never mind a “diet” because that concept simply suggests that Joy should “Diet” from 5PM to 6PM (before her primary meal) at which time she can reward herself with an extra serving of ice cream). .Or she will start having only fruit for breakfast (the kind packed in heavy syrup) and wonder why the #s don’t just melt away. Seriously, my former MIL DID that.
I have returned to using a dot instead of carats with p because the former no longer works and it was the only way I could breakup long posts (other than photo or subtext).
Sorry- should have credited comment on board to Yooper, but seriously:I don’t think either Joy or Verla can reach their ankles (even sitting down, much less standing).
I don’t think they worry too much about their weight anyway.
Look at what they eat, Hohos, Twinkies, cake(preferably chocolate). etc….. Yea they can’t pinch an inch it’s mostly 3-4 in. anyway. Poor fools they are..

A little bit of Twinkie ♫ makes the diet food ♪ ♫ go down…. Of course, Joy doesn’t NEED to diet, cos that isn’t really fat on her….
it’s just water weight.
You know…. from that extra glass of 7-up she drank last Tuesday. Remember?
It’s really hard to get rid of excess water… it can take years.
In fact, she should take a nap…. lying down helps it drain.

@finale. Cankle is an extremely swollen ankle (calf+ankle). Haven’t a clue abut VERU, unless that’s Julie’s poor printing for Verl ?
