There are a lot of applications of helium in medicine and industry, and the equipment that uses it is in more demand. It isn’t a renewable resource. Some scientists have been asking for helium usage to be curtailed for years. This isn’t new, but it’s not well known. It’s still wasted on party gags, and the government doesn’t wanna do anything about it.
Some helium is still being produced on earth—by the natural emission of alpha particles in radioactive decay. Still, we may regret its loss in generations to come.
