Yes. I have been somewhat amused (not) by the people who assume that because the media is no longer reporting, that it’s ‘all fixed’.
Of course it’s beyond containment. Had they claimed containment at some point, I’d have been skeptical. We’ve pretty much quit eating North Pacific seafood. Industry strikes the food chain again …
Full disclosure: I am likely being a conspiracy theorist. That said: isn’t it suspicious that the supposed left-wing-commie-pinko-liberal media hasn’t talked about this issue? Maybe they aren’t as liberal as the conservatives like to think. Could this be because so many people are trying to convince us that we need to go more nuclear for our energy needs? Just as the movie “The China Syndrome” and the Three Mile Island accident (which was much less dangerous than Chernobyl or Fukujima) helped to put a chill into our nuclear program, the Japanese disaster, if reported for what it truly is, would certainly make people more wary of more nukes, more suspicious of continuously-watered-down regulations, and more concerned about nuclear wastes piling up at military installations all over the country because it has to go someplace.
August, 1945, they’re just giving a little something back? It is interesting that the country most impacted by the dawn of the nuclear age has been the “victim” of “atoms for peace” as well.
Having been mentored at an early age on various energies including nuclear I can’t say that I’m completely impartial to the matter.
However here are a few facts
. Radiation does not make other objects radioactive, i.e radiation escaping from the plant does not make surrounding water and lifeforms radioactive, this actively requires radioactive substances to carry it, ex. uranium being consumed by local animals
. Short of an explosion, said fallout will not be in air
. depending on the composition of nuclear waste (some reactors can literally keep reusing it till there is no uranium) it can be shorter lived based on the remaining isotopes
. Spread across the volume of the pacific ocean these isotopes are no longer detectable as much more than background radiation, by concentration you are more at risk from a concrete building

Her in Florida we are paying for a nuclear plant that is never going to be built.
