Republicans are desperate to stop it because they do not want anything in the country to be improved during Obama’s presidency. -Not health care. Not jobs. Not the economy. Not immigration.-Hatred for Obama outweighs every issue.
ACA may work, but it will never be as good as it could have been had the Republicans and Democrats been able to work together in good faith. I hope Braindead is wrong and Rep reluctance has been over the standard party desire to make the other party look bad, because if all of this has ONLY been because of our first black president from day one, when McConnell said the goal was to keep him from being a two term president, then this has much more negative connotations. Pelosi, Boehnor and Reid have also thrown their sticks into the spokes of our gov’t bicycle. That said…Mr. Obama is no Bill Clinton or Ronald Reagan. He apparently does not know how to reach out beyond his circle of confidants in order to build some sort of consensus and he spends more time on his road show than he does confronting and courting the Congress. I want my neighbors, friends, and family to have healthcare insurance. Just as I want those driving on the roadways with me to have car insurance, and for the buildings in which I shop and dine to have business insurance. Things happen.I also want hospitals and other medical service/equipment providers to charge what things are actually worth, not what they can get. Rand Paul suggests that since we don’t, or can’t, shop around for medical services – especially in emergencies – we allow ourselves to be charged too much. If actual competition was part of the equation, costs would drop. I agree and we are seeing some prices dropping, especially in states that are conforming to the ACA guidelines. But it would be even better and more efficient if our self serving cannibalistic legislature would do their jobs in a civil and respectful manner.Respectully,C.
face it;SOMETHING needs to be done about health care herein the US…I see ACA as a first step towards universal (singlepayer)health care like other nations have.
" i thought with both the house and Senate in his 1st 2 years"
This point has been brought up often. It has always been wrong. Although the House was majority Democratic for the first two years, and the Senate had plenty of Democrats for straight up-or-down votes, the Republicans filibustered almost every piece of legislation, requiring 60 votes for anything to pass, rather than 51.
The Democrats never had 60 members in the Senate during that time. First, Norm Coleman wouldn’t accept the fact that Al Franken had beaten him (I might have felt the same way under the circumstances), and demanded recounts, which delayed the seating of the legally-elected Senator for months. Then Ted Kennedy died. So, please stop saying what you should know is incorrect.
Filibusters should follow the rules as originally written. You have to stand and talk and talk and talk. This way, there are consequences. The idea of saying “I will filibuster” being sufficient is ludicrous. And I will bring up the same issue as I did on plenty of other issues: don’t give the Republicans any tools to use that you wouldn’t want Democrats to use.
If the Senate becomes majority Republican, do you really think the Dems will allow any straight up-or-down votes to advance a Republican agenda? What’s good for the goose……
Fact-free rants from Harley, who is also a climate denier and thus foreign to real-world evidence? Nothing to see here. Obamacare has already brought down health care costs, is working better than projected, and it turns out the Republicans have been using the “kids under 26” provision more than Democrats have.
What a weird conspiracy theory. UPS can’t “drop” the ACA. It’s a law. They insure their employees, so other than bringing down their insurance costs and giving them refunds when their insurance company overcharges, the ACA doesn’t affect them.
Real tired of this. People with prior diagnoses would be happy, the uninsured would be happy and Kids that can keep covered by their parents like it. Also, the public won’t be paying higher costs because of all the poor going to the emergency rooms for care now.
Those with pre-existing conditions may disagree. The uninsured will sure benefit.Currently the un insured go to the emergency room for health care. That is the most expensive way, and it drives up costs. I was going to just ask WHY?I suspect it is pure hatred for anything Obama wants to do. Racism is rampant. Partisanship gone wild, and the major plank of the GOP is to hate Obama and everything he does.
that is because even before the inaguration McConnell had the GOP sign an oath to make Obama a 1 term president and have never even met him halfway. If you remember, liberals were really upset about how Obama was leaning over backwards to try to play with the GoP who said "we won’t Ever play with you.
“If you remember, liberals were really upset about how Obama was leaning over backwards to try to play ..”It’s true. I felt like he wasted a lot of time on engaging the GOP, when he should have been focused on cracking Ben Nelson’s head until he voted with the party.
The problem is not that Obamacare will work. The problem is that Obamanuts, which fall from the ACORN tree, will not quit trying to make it work, even if they have to destroy the country to see if it will work.
