Maybe our short attention culture doesn’t understand:Leading a country from a long autocrat /elitist history to some working democracy takes at last a whole generation or two. And it isn’t done without some more or less ugly setbacks. The local youth can’t be stopped by some radicals long term.

I have to agree with Mr. Kiser and Trantor. There is also another factor too few mention. Currently, one of the things our 1.5 billion gives us is preferential treatment for our military ships. I don’t know if commercial ships get benefits, but getting ships from the Atlantic to coast of Yemen takes much less time if they don’t have to go around South Africa on their way.My gut tells me we should honor the treaty and, like McCain and many others have said, halt all future payments until peace is restored. My brain tells me that could cost the US billions if Egypt were to decide to shut down the canal or block access. I don’t think they can, legally, but they weren’t legally allowed to topple their gov’t without a recall vote by the people. The Muslim Brotherhood is 20% of a 90million population. And there is another percentage who doesn’t like the MB, but doesn’t like the coup either. I would wish that calmer heads would soon prevail, but in our more educated and more free society, our parties can’t even find the will to compromise between themselves. There are no good examples, or solutinos.Thank you for your good points Trantor and Mr. Kiser, and for the tone with which they were made.Sincerely,C.

I would add better political parties to your statement, but admit that would probably flow up from the ‘better people’ part. Otherwise, I agree with you whole heartedly. Thank you for the statement.

The $1.5 billion the U.S. provides is relative “small potato” money, especially considering our use of the Suez. Hmm, maybe we need to get serious as in Panama and kick out the Egyptian government completely and install our stooges?

Dish just started carrying Al Jazeera America last night. It was very interesting that they spent an hour with six folks representing different “views” on the Egypt situation, revealing the actual complexity. It’s also interesting they present more complete news coverage, and their on air folks are actually literate, can pronounce words over two syllables, and actually know facts relative to their stories!! Totally unlike Faux, or/and yes, CNN and the “beauty parlor newscasters” on the networks!

There was a great documentary on PBS about the life of Mohammed. (no picture of him though) I watched the first hour and when I realized it was at least two hours long I recorded the series.I plan to watch some more this evening, highly recommend so far.

That same advise would work in the area of partisan policies here. But It’s hard when the GOP has got 2 main platforms, 1.Hate Obama, 2. Convince people that -people who are not working are lazy slobs who should be working. There are a few like that but most of the people who get Government assistance are the old, who worked and paid into Social Security, Children born into poverty, the unemployed who can’t find work, Veterans, Truely disabled people, and those who have had economic disasters such as they have had long term illness or a family member has. Totaled car with injuries, disasters (acts of GoD.

Rock: also taped all three hours, caught bits, looks pretty good, will watch it all later. The bits I did see will obviously set off our “Muslim haters” though, as the truth will upset their applecart.

Rock: watched the series. EVERY American, especially the “evangelical bigots”, should watch and realize that radical “Islamists” today have distorted their faith just as much as so many “evangelical Christians” have!!

BTW: been watching some more Aljazeera. . . VERY interesting that they’ve hired actual journalists, cover stories in more detail, and more accurately, and on their “commentary” programs, they actually get representatives from all sides, let them speak, and the moderators don’t try to determine the outcome of the interviews beforehand, and command attention away from the guests, to sell themselves!! (or the network owners views!) Are they totally unbiased in their coverage? well, probably not, but by comparison to Rupert Murdoch?????
