How do you get yourself in these situations, Sam? You need more leverage... or you need a new lever. And why are you doing this? What's your exit strategy? If you have one.
“Where did we in the US get this idea that we can control what all the other peoples of the world do?”That would be the Cold War. The US State Dept inserted its influence pretty much in every nation it could to counter the Soviets, who were doing the same. Unfortunately, the State Department is still stuck in that Cold War mode.It reminds me of a Rodney Dangerfield line in “Back to School.”“Take it easy, will ya? I mean, the war’s over. Get new parts for your head.”
Every U.S. President, regardless of their personal moral and ethical beliefs/standards when they entered the office, has—in the end—found it prudent to give into and accept the ancient Arab wise saying of their nomadic tribes that, “My enemies enemy is my friend”; friendly military dictatorship vs. an unfriendly totalitarian theocracy, which one would you pick?
Dycel, brindead08 is more than likely correct whether you agree or not. In either case the upshot would be another illegal, ill-advised war that would do more harm to America than good—just like Iraq.Additionally, either you were one of McNamara’s Hundred Thousand, are a troll, or simply unable or unwilling to communicate in an mature, adult manner.Bob-lezeb, DAV, US Army
‘We need to tell the World to"F" Off! The USA will no longer Bankroll you,.you’re on your own.’-No one (at least on these boards) has much of an idea exactly where foreign aid goes. I think if you followed the money closely, you’d find that the money itself goes to Haliburton, Bechtel, and many other companies who then supply the aid, in the form of weapons, engineering, food or whatever. -Except that we do know that Bush sent a billion in cash to Iraq, where it promptly disappeared.-My guess is that the Iraq cash was shipped to secret accounts in Switzerland, maybe in the same banks as Willard the ChickenHawk’s.
At the end of WWII the USA was the only major player in the war with their infrastructure intact and the major world power with nuclear weapons. wielding that much power the government took over as the major power in the world. since 1945 we’ve fought 7 wars and dictate policy to the rest of the world. Now you know why we’re so disliked. We have become the New Rome. this is not a pun.

Oh, if only the ChickenHawks were in power, we would have already invaded somewhere.

I think a more approprate caption would be to have the Camels saying:
“Some guy named Obama did this. He said he’d be back to do something about it later but had to go because it was his tee time…”

Actually it predates the cold war. Teddy Roosevelt was the “policeman-to-the-World” “Laisseze Faire” was the quote, but not the actions.
