It is precisely because of the illegality that drug dealers sell to anyone, including minors. Were it sold under the auspices of the same laws as alchohol, there would be very few “black market” sales to children, and none that would be legitimate. Liquor stores don’t sell to children because they wish to remain in business. As long as drugs are illegal, their sellers will have nothing encumbering their sale to minors.
Just as the majority of gun-owners are responsible, the majority of drug users are…..users, not sellers. And the majority of sellers will not sell to kids. Just as alcoholics are unwilling to buy liquor for those underage. And not all users are addicts.
I have a friend who was seated next to a DEA agent on a commercial flight about 10 years ago. They struck up a conversation. The agent stated that they estimated that three out of every five homes at that time had marijuana in the household; the only reason DEA ever prosecutes pot anymore is because some politician wants to make a splash.
If you think that democracy means that the will of the people is represented, it’s way past time to re-examine the waste of time, money, and lives that is called the “war on drugs”.
Let’s face it, the basis for the war on drugs was basically a war on urban youth; felony convictions for non-violent possession of small amounts resulting in an inability to get a decent job or vote. The conservative mantra: “Keep ’em down.”
The bible is not the word of god – particularly the “Kings Bible” – it is the word (words) of man.
The bible was written by many different men over thousands of years.
They threw out parts they didn’t like, added new parts, changed it when they translated it into other languages, men through out parts of the bible, because they didn’t like or agree with , changed meaning and words when they translated it into other languages, and then founded religions based on THE WORD OF GOD!
Many parts of the bible contradict other parts of the bible, so people (and religions) just “cherry pick” the parts they want and ignore the other parts.
I would recommend that everyone read the bible – it is not easy and not fun – but then they would know what a mess it is and (hopefully) stop using it as THE WORD OF GOD.
Each of us is our own religion, with out own beliefs.
Do not mix Government with religion – it brings out the worse in both of them.
Britain treated drugs (including the hardest) as a medical problem and addicts could get a prescription and monitoring by their doctor. They found that 5% each year quit and there was no motive for criminals to addict more. Then Empress Maggie americanized the police with firearms and drug raids and now they have as much problem as the US.
“Buddhism” may be non-violent, but some Buddhists are violent nonetheless. Just like Christians…
Of course, it’s a mystery to me why religion has become a primary topic of discussion on this ‘toon. Yes, some of those who favor draconian sentencing for non-violent drug offenders are Christians, but I don’t think their Christianity is the basis for that position.
mdavis4183: How does that apply to gays in Russia, blacks in the New Jim Crow south, Chicanos in Arizona, college students in North Carolina, etc. All are victims of “criminal laws” legally enacted but short of leaving the jurisdiction (as though that is really possible considering the investment of time and money), how do they avoid doing the crime?
????Funny. When I was using drugs, mine was delivered by a guy driving a fancy sport car. Sometimes even by coworkers wearing suits. Some people live in a world where are the drug dealers have to be Black people wearing hoodies selling in the ‘hood’. Grow up. PS: I stopped using by my choice.

DRUGS – Legalize and control…didn’t we learn anything during the days of prohibition (1919-1933)?
Take away the profit motive and eliminate the makers, distributors, pushers and the gangsters who enforce “their” law.
Take away the profit motive from drugs and eliminate the gun traffic across the border…reducing the profit motive for guns.
Divert the money spent on the “Drug War” to local good use like recovery centers for those we can now release from their wrongful incarceration.

Only a fool would keep trying the same failed policies over and over and expect (better) different results than before.

Ah, a “low information” voter. I’m surprised the nursing home has a good internet connection. I hope your “depends” fits.
Go to “inforwars.com” and you can see all the videos of Islamic soldiers killing Christians in Syria and Egypt that you want.
I suppose you’d support the murder of innocent Christians after viewing your hateful posts.
