The Villa where Mary and Percy Shelley (& others) are staying looks just like the Villa Diodati manor close to Lake Geneva where Mary was inspired to write “Frankenstein.” Alley is shivering, and I was fascinated to learn that Switzerland’s cold and stormy summer of 1816 was due to dust in the upper atmosphere from a volcanic eruption in southeast Asia – temperatures dropped around the world. Apparently Doc knows something about that climatic change and that’s why he & Alley are time-traveling to Switzerland in 1816 for research purposes. Anyone wanting to follow this “electrifying” story can pick it up the recent beginning (Aug. 11). See the Villa Diodati in the Aug. 14 strip.

Here’s something more I found re the volcanic eruption that caused the climate changes back in 1816:The Tambora Volcano is in Sumbawa, Indonesia. Apparently its eruption in April 1815, was the largest on the planet in historic times. The massive eruption produced world-wide climatic effects and killed over 100,000 people (directly and indirectly). The current status of Tambora is “restless” and there have been recent alerts.

Mary Worth: Time for Mary to step in and set everything right. It might take a few months but she will do it and everyone will live happily ever after.
Rex Morgan: They better find out more of the details and have a lawyer check it out before signing anything. Why do some women always think that the husband must be older?
Crankshaft: This is one strip that I can’t get interested in. I find it very dull.
Mary I have to agree with Florchi that the spa is at fault here for offering what amount to therapy sessions without a licensed therapist. Simple solution is for Mary to go to the management and set the record straight. It certainly isn’t Shannon’s fault she was put into a potentially volatile situation for which she is untrained and unqualified.
