Gretchen is trying to get an explanation from an airline worker. Doesn’t she know that is an exercise in futility? She is going to get an answer in airline speak which says nothing. Why did they cancel the flight? Because they can.
There are so many things that don’t make sense that I can’t wait until the next day to get some clarification but, maybe, that’s what Mr Scancarelli’s goal is. ;-) BTW, the planes (L1011 or DC10?) and the screens at the check in counter look very much 20th century.
If the flight had been cancelled, that means it did not take off HOURS ago. That also means that they would not have announced a delay at the destination airport an hour or so before the scheduled arrival. There wouldn’t have been a scheduled arrival because it was cancelled HOURS ago. Sheesh!

If a flight from Italy was cancelled, they would have known that when they first got to the airport.

If the flight was cancelled, not delayed, why didn’t Guido call Gretchen to tell her? Maybe he isn’t so lonely after all.
