Ms Godfrey doesn’t HAVE to yell at Nate at all. She chooses to do it because she enjoys bullying and harming children. Nate’s plan to ignore the verbal abuse is a good one. If you can’t beat ’em, ignore ’em.

So to twist a phrase, 35 years ago or so, you could have been Francis?

In my opinion Nate knows how to push her buttons. And likes doing it. I’m a yeller too when I get mad but I’m not a mean person.

One-room schoolhouse? Because in most schools, once you move on to the next grade, you don’t see that teacher again, except, perhaps, in the halls (with the possible exception of phys ed and unified arts teachers in MS and generally in HS, where you can see the same teachers for years if you’re taking classes in their expertise).

Poor Francis. He totally just wants to get Nate on the right track, but he doesn’t listen!

In panel 3 it looks like he’s about to cry.
