If you are white and you walk through a black neighborhood, you will be perfectly fine. People will wave and ask “How are you doing?” Try a little walk on the South Side of Chicago or Detroit or DC or New Orleans or Oakland or ……….

Our rural areas is very white, well, we have those “black Irish”, the Basques went across the state line a long time ago. But, a couple years ago, the “talk” was “Who’s that black guy?” and folks were concerned, and yes, we have a lot of TEA party folks. Turns out that “suspicious” new arrival was also an IMMIGRANT, from AFRICA (Nigeria). It turns out folks finally noticed the clerical collar and discovered he’s the town’s new Catholic priest. It WAS interesting how the “tone” of conversation changed.
