“It started as the Clinton story.”Nah, it’s was Gingrich’s story before him.

So would Marilyn Monroe. I forget the name of Mr. Roosevelt’s mistress…..

It’s funny. We can’t understand how the Italians keep electing Bunga-Bunga Berluscone, but……

OK, OK! George Washington had affairs, and is suspected to have fathered West Ford, the son of one of his family’s slaves, Venus Ford. It seems to be a requirement to be a President or Congressperson to have cheated on your spouse. The only President you can say didn’t was James Buchanan, who was unmarried and may have been gay…

    “Gingrich stepped down.”

I believe you are mistaken. My memory tells me that he was voted out of his Speakership by his party as a result of his ethics convictions. The people of Georgia then voted for his opponent in the next election.

“Defending Weiner in the “us against them” game?”

I can only speak for myself. You do not see me defending him. I only sought to provide perspective. You can interpret this any way you wish, but my intention was that slimeballs are nothing new in politics. In fact, becoming one may be a pre-requisite for entry. It’s not “us against them”, it’s “why does this keep happening?”

Thank you for your info. I had not heard that. It makes me wonder, though: if there was enough evidence of wrongdoing to make his own party throw him out of his Speakership, it’s hard to imagine that the charges were found to be false. Let’s be honest: even in the face of mountains of evidence, politicians are loathe to discipline members of their own party, regardless of which one it is. I would also imagine that, if this was truly the case, the Republicans would have made enough noise about it that I would have remembered something, and I would have expected them to mount a campaign to restore him to his post ASAP under the circumstances. I readily admit to projecting here, and that I may be wrong.

But it sounds to me as though the “clearing” of his name may have had more to do with “he has suffered enough” than with “oops, we were wrong”.

Ike had a mistress for decades. Anyone ever hear of harding? Tom Jefferson’s “dalliances”? It isn’t new, and it isn’t news. It’s just more BS because the “media” today are much stupider, egotistical, and concerned with their hair, instead of Journalism.

It’s a shame to link a good movie to those perverts.

“Gingrich stepped down. Clinton didn’t, Weiner isn’t.”Gingrich stepped down because the saw the writing on the wall when he was under investigation for numerous ethics violations. It had nothing to do with his extra-martial affairs. Anthony Wiener did step down after his junk tweeting scandal. He’s now trying to follow in Sanford’s footsteps in getting back in to politics.

Gingrich is as crooked as a barrel full of fish hooks, was and remains so. These guys are just weird, and offend “good Christian values” that give thieves and liars who steal and start wars they want (as long as THEY don’t have to fight them), a “pass”.
