Is Marigold having toe envy? What if Phoebe starts to have Horn Envy? What if the trade bodies goof up the spell and become a Centaur? Also Phoebe has the typical cartoon 4 toes. Funny, I never countered her fingers before. Just that’s a real close up on the foot for me not to count toes. That’s what they made us do at camp too. 1st day, see the nurse, count toes etc so you cant sue the camp for loosing some thing you didn’t have to begin with.

Nobody asked, but my cat Mia is a polydactyl. She has seven toes on each front paw. It looks like she’s walking on catcher’s mitts. She almost can use the extras like opposable thumbs to pick up things.

Unicorns do have toes, but only two (as with goats), on each cloven hoof. Unlike goats’ hooves, unicorn hooves (depending on which House [family line] the unicorn is of) usually lack the rear dewclaws (Giraffes’ cloven hooves also lack dewclaws). Goats’ cloven hooves enable them to not only move in a very sure-footed manner on rough, rocky, and uneven terrain, but even to climb trees and up onto tents! Undoubtedly unicorns have even greater agility (even without wielding magic), including the ability to pick up objects by spreading their toes to grasp them.

Cloners need to bring back the Eohippus! Horses with toes! Having hooves must be like having cinderblocks at the end of your legs.

One thing about having hooves, you never hear of athlete’s hoof.

Cartoonists must learn at Cartoon U that their characters are only allowed to have 4 digits on their hands and feet. Sometimes only 3!

As someone who has had very recent encounters with not only tarantulas but also scorpians, I find Marigolds observation to be very akin crawling and icky. And I need a pedicure.

While it is true that unicorns have two “toes”, they’re not skinny, wiggly things like human toes. Marigold probably doesn’t even think of her half-hooves and Phoebe’s toes as members of the same class.

As to number of fingers/toes, it was simply recognized about a hundred years ago that if you’re drawing in a loose, cartoony style, four fingers and a thumb make hands look ridiculously fat. It’s all very well for Superman or the girls in Apartment 3-G to have the regular complement, but Phoebe’s hands are just as they should be.

And having a tail must be like having a python attached to your butt.

Imagine having fingers on the ends of your fingers. The thought may creep you out, but someone who always had ’em would never feel that way.
