This case has recharged the black voters in Florida and other states where Stand Your Ground Laws are in effect. It will be interesting to see what happens with this momentum. That said, I agree with those who would like to see the artists dwell on some other topics. It’s not like we’re lacking for issues warranting attention. I just wish I felt the legislator was paying attention.Respectfully,C.

Yes onguard, no stereotyping, like well the image of Dr. Bill Cosby, is rampant in your confident description of “others”.

It wouldn’t be in the media that much, but no matter their race, I still see vigilantes ad modern day Don Quixotes who watched too many action movies.

ONguard, part of my comment was because Dr. Cosby HAS put down black teenagers who copy that stereotype you bring up. There’s that good song bit by the old man on the “pants on the ground” thing as well.

Saw a kid yesterday, ear plugs, nose rings, eyebrow rings, and yes, pants hanging off his butt, a WHITE KID!! That’s not at all uncommon today, and I live in a tiny (very “conservative”) town, seeing a few, and many more when I go to “the city”.

Mocking any “style issues” is getting difficult to type. I get comments because I have a pony tail, an old man, and haven’t been to a barber in about 8 years. What I don’t pass on very often is that sitting in a barber chair, and having them put that drape over my whole self brings back memories from a barbershop 46 years ago, and a very “upsetting” flashback due to PTSD. It became one of those “life threatening experiences” they ask you for in determining PTSD.

Folks make style decisions for much less “dramatic” reasons today, and yes, codgers find them upsetting, just like the Beatles first appearance on our shores, but yes, the kids today are much more extreme, ALL kids! BTW, if you want “sick”, catch a few minutes of “Toddlers and Tiaras”.

No, onguard, you weren’t the guy next to me who was shot 17 times by a VC, and I couldn’t get out from under the drop cloth and to my weapon in time to stop that, or the three other people he killed, but I did finally get “free”, and yes, killed him. Those are the things that leave one with PTSD.

^Bong Son, May, 1967. Sorry, but you posted the comment after my monthly with my VA “mental health professional”. Part of getting rid of flashbacks, is going over what cause them and “dealing with it”. Thankfully, my son didn’t have to wait 30 years before getting help in dealing with his. He still has problems, severe at times, but it’s easier when they get help so much sooner.

Which, btw, our “gung ho” citizens today are no more willing to hear what they “supported”, than in our day. Yes, cause and effect, whether hate in Viet Nam, Iraq, Afghanistan, or Florida, is something Americans don’t want to really think about, especially their individual roles in fomenting, or “preserving” it.

When a forum carries as much hatred of “others” as this one has been, it may well indeed be the proper forum to address it.
