Is it absurd that we seem to forgive politicians so easily or is our collective memory sooooo short that we no longer remember the indiscretions? Why aren’t intelligent beings running for office? Oh, yeah, they are INTELLIGENT.

I don’t know how anyone can vote for someone who betrayed the trust of those closest to them. A family member would take years to repair the damage, a politician expects forgiveness in the next election cycle. Clearly they are all bums.

Politicians, like most of us, (men anyway) compartmentalize. Keeps the right hand from knowing what the left is doing or interfering with the right. Even great presidents and congresspeople had their dark sides.

Corruption is indeed universal on both sides of the political spectrum. After all. politicians are just people as are those that elect them!!

The majority gets the politicians they deserve. Unfortunately, the minority gets them, too.

Spitzer was prosecuting prostitutes, while using them. He shouldn’t ever hold office again. Weiner is just a jerk, and the “vulgar photos” were more than a bit of a joke because of the flap they caused, but only weak-minded zealots could get so bent out of shape by his actions.

I wouldn’t vote for either of them, more concerned that folks keep voting for Boehner, whose ethics are much worse.

I’m sort of with you in this, in that these peccadilloes are separate from leadership. However, in President Clinton’s case, he lied to a grand jury. That is absolutely cause to believe that his qualities for maintaining public office are suspect. While the gist of the lie was about sex, it was still a lie, for which, he was disbarred for 5 years.

I will depart from the general “wisdom” expressed here and note the depths to which news reporting has sunk. They ignore how and results of governance and chase the “scandel” because that’s what brings in the audience. Come to think of it, doesn’t say much for the viewing audience either.

Also so a “refresher” story on Henry Hyde (Republican) whose extra-marital affair was merely a “youthful indiscretion”, that took place when he was 41 years old!! Ah yes, Republicans can also redefine “youth”.
