The only thing I wanted out of Obama was health care reform, which was corrupted into Obamacare instead of the single payer system that works everywhere else. The reason many of us voted for him in 2008 was because GWB had screwed up the country so badly nobody with any sense would support someone from the same party who didn’t seem interested in changing things. The reason for voting in 2012 was because Romney looked like he would go back to the Bush era policies, and he also seemed to cater too much to the Tea Party crowd. 2016 is a chance for both parties to get it right – lay off the extremism and promote non-partisan solutions. It’s also up to the electorate to get rid of the extremists on both sides in the House, get some moderates in there to work together for some solutions, and start digging us out of the hole that’s been getting deeper since 2000. While I have no illusions that a non-Democrat or Republican can win the Presidency, there is no reason to vote for either of those parties in the House. Get rid of all of them and start over.

No liberal group identified Obama as the ‘most liberal anything’. Most of the Democratic primary contenders in 2008 had more liberal platforms than Obama or Clinton.The National Journal claimed Obama had the most liberal voting record for 2007, but his overall record puts him in the mid-teens. The NJs method was to simply tag the Senator with the highest percentage of votes supporting the liberal position as ‘most liberal’. Obama, Clinton & McCain skipped a lot of votes that year. McCain missed so many, the NJ decided they couldn’t rank him. Obama was always well to the right of Senators like Russ Feingold & Bernie Sanders, who would proudly wear the ‘most liberal’ badge.

denis1112: I had fun back in the days of the Berlin airlift with people like you. When they would conflate communism with socialism, I would ask them why we were defending Berlin. They, of course, expressed confusion, since they were confused about most things. My reply was “because Willy Brandt is mayor of Berlin and head of the West German Socialist Party.” Even back in those relatively free days, the corporate media never let them know that – and still doesn’t..Uncle Joe: Of course Sanders is not permitted to disclose his party identification because it might undercut the delusions of some of those posting here. Back when he was mayor of Burlington, he could mention that he was a Socialist, in the tradition of Gene Debs and Norman Thomas, not that anyone in the current generation is permitted to recognize those great Americans. .I am not a Socialist, but a Green. However, I have lived under a socialist government and it holds no fear for me. I also defend the truth, therefore I must defend all who are attacked by the military-industrial complex.
