Val: LISTEN UP, gang. It's a 2-hour drive to Potawatomi Campground. Val: There will be no WHINING, no "are we there yet?" no fights over seat space, and no sticky, drippy, or crumbly snacks. Got it?? Alix: Sorry. It turns out this is the NO FUN car. Val: And we're listening to MY music.

I’m lucky enough to have a USB port in my car for music, so there’s a 16GB stick with over 8 days of music on it. The only genres that are NOT on that stick are hip-hop and punk. Otherwise, there’s everything: classical, heavy metal, rock, country, steampunk, folk, world, a bit of jazz, some klezmer… The music comes from every continent, except the Antarctic. There are even a few Christmas tunes in there – from Abney Park and Eileen McGann.

That’s just about the same time it takes me to get to Potawatami Casino. Phunnie, I didn’t know they had a campground in Milwaukee too.

Hopefully HER music is good travelling music. My kids still relate driving to Grandma’s (8hrs) with The Osmond’s: The Plan.

Personally I always did this weird thing with the kids when they were trapped with me in the car, it’s called talking. It was really great when they were getting to be teenagers and I’d tell them really embarassing stories about things they did as toddlers.

No fighting, no snacking, and parent music? Might as well throw them in Gitmo—that’d be less cruel.

All the car trips in the last 30 years have either had me watching the map for the driver (one of my kids or my lover) or driving someplace alone or with just a bird on my shoulder. No music for me – my radio is tuned to the 2 “talk radio” stations that we have here.
I like music for other things but arguing with the radio is better to keep my attention and my mind on the road. Trips are too infrequent to make a tape of MY music just for that. Most errands are less than 10 miles away (Even my Sprouts store is just 7).

Not to beat a dead horse, but I got my information from July 10th’s comic. To me, it spelled out the most clearly how the kids were to be swapped.
