We are a long way from controlling weather, other than increasing the greenhouse effect. It would be great if we knew how to have a few hundred million gallons of rain fall there rather than here. The good news for central Florida is that illegal fireworks likely won’t set any of this mud-slogged place on fire.
^Palmetto burns quite nicely, even if the ground is wet. But of course the real issue is that I’ve watched the climate, not just “weather” change in my area over the last 35 years. It’s also observable in the change in wildlife and plant communities, and water picture.
Having fought wildfires for decades, the picture for the future of my friends, and relatives, still in the business, is not good.
I dunno, MFT … how long can we afford to let the arguments and the ‘studies’ go on, before we concede that something’s going on?
What is really going on is that TPTP are keeping us at each other’s throats, arguing over whether or not the climate is changing, or the weather, or who or what caused it – because as long as the argument goes on, nothing is being done to clean up the environment.
The real issue is the environment. We have survived climate change before, we will again. What we can’t survive for very long is the toxic burden we are carrying, fruits of letting Big Bidniz ‘regulate’ themselves.
We’ve had thirty years of business regulating themselves, and it looks to me that we’d better go back to regulation, because as long as we continue on this path, it will be all moot.
Have you noticed the escalating cancer rates? Cancer isn’t so much a disease as a response to poisoning. Everything that passes our lips (unless we can afford to eat an exclusively organic/free range diet) is feeding the cancer.
Let’s give GW the break it so richly deserves, and get the water and food cleaned up. Our kids and theirs will be glad we did.
Same argument used against laws for responsible gun ownership. Why not have a discussion in the wake of a tragedy? And in a parallel universe, Republicans in Pennsylvania passed Voter ID laws in response to zero instances of voter fraud. Hypocrite much?
You are completely off base here. This is the price that is paid when you send youyoung men and women into a dangerous situation to help save property. Houses can be re-built, that’s what insurance is for. Global warming real or not has nothing to do with this tragic loss of life.
Hmm, fewer deniers around here than usual. I guess that’s progress. And only one, Morty, who somehow thinks that pointing out the reality of global warming/climate change is “political points”. I guess he’s just not that interested in science.

Shame on you Danziger for using the death of these honorable men to spew your “global warming spiel”

That warming is coming from a fire, not from global warming. You need to go back to school and get a real education.
