The Republican Republic at work. Our way, and no highways unless you make cuts to entitlements first. The immigration debacle is a bipartisan disaster whose foundation was laid with a couple of years of Reagan leaving office. Amnesty with a plan to prevent incentives for future illegals by punishing those who hired them vanished almost immediately. And here we are again with millions of people in our nation illegally because we failed to use free trade to give them opportunity in their own nations so we could make more money for stock holders and CEO bonuses while closing plants in the USA and disenfranchising the middle class whose tax contributions helped this nation grow and grow from 1945 until 2001.There have been many good ideas for how to resolve this problem, but there are no legislators capable of negotiating and compromising without losing party support in upcoming elections. The solutions offered cost billions which, if history is to be observed, will have to be paid for with cuts to "entitlements’.Geo Washington would weep to see his prediction of parties and money in politics dragging down this nation. And instead of talking about ways to getting educated and intelligent people who are able to compromise, they – the politicians and those who donate to their elections, drive up the fear and the anger so rational people, people who in most cases could be good neighbors capable of respect and civility say and even do things that drives the wedge deeper and makes progress harder. The dividers are winning and the UNITED states weakens and withers from branch to root. How can a people divided against themselves create a gov’t that works for the COMMON good?Respectfully,C.

You appear to be very confused. Republicans did not bring slaves to the US. Indeed, the first Republican president ended slavery. Democrats initiated the KKK and Jim Crow laws.

What Boehner does wrong procedurally is bring bills to a vote before he finds out if he has the votes to pass the bill. What he does wrong otherwise is “be a Republican.”

Boehner is an ass. He won’t bring a bill to the floor unless it has majority of REPUBLICANS in favor, even though he has enough TOTAL votes to pass it. Time for him to quit crying in his (or his Dads) beer, and actually WORK!

I seriously doubt that there will be a lot of takers even among legal immigrants (if they had to go through the same process), let alone illegals. Have any of our more conservatives here even read the incredible requirements put out for these immigrants (legal or illegal) to become US citizens? I even doubt that the so called patriotic American ultra conservatives on this site could pass the requirements themselves. You have to find out if you owed any back taxes, and pay not only them, but any interest and/or penalties before you can even start the process. Then you not only have to learn relatively good English, you also have to learn American history (at a college level) and then American Civics. Quite frankly, I doubt if a majority of our people in Congress itself could pass these requirements! And then the opponents have the unmitigated gall to call this amnesty!!
