The story would still be widely reported on, as many would be indignant over the basic fact that a black man had killed a white man, regardless of mitigating circumstances. And the truth would still be just as difficult to discern.

Zimmerman called 911 and reported Martin walking in the neighborhood. When asked if he was following the ‘suspect’, Zimmerman said yes. Zimmerman was told to stop following Martin. Zimmerman continued driving his car and following Martin. When Martin stopped near his father’s home, Zimmerman got out of his car to confront Martin.Had Zimmerman obeyed the 911 operator, Martin would not have been able to “attack” Zimmerman. If Zimmerman had simply stayed in his car, Martin could have attacked the car, but not Zimmerman. There would have been no need to stand his ground, and no need to shoot anyone.Zimmerman would not have had to ‘stand his ground’ if he had not disobeyed the 911 operator AND exited his car.Zimmerman has made numerous calls to 911. Some of these calls have been played on newscasts. The residents of the neighborhood where this happened have made statements to the effect that its a good neighborhood and didn’t even need a watch, one man said it was Zimmerman’s idea to create the watch in the first place. I don’t know.Whatever the facts in this case, two things are certain….Zimmerman was told to not follow Martin AND after disregarding that order, got out of his car to confront him. Whether he attacked Martin or Martin attacked him after those two things happened is almost superfluous. Zimmerman wasn’t standing his ground, he was standing on ground Martin was using to walk home. Martin either didn’t want to lead this stranger to his home, or he wasn’t mature enough to call 911 to report he was being followed. He certainly wasn’t following Zimmerman’s car.It is a tragedy that shouldn’t have happened.Respectfully,C.

“Chicago’s Strict Gun Control Laws did not prevent the murder of a young Teen girl…”For the millionth time, local gun bans & background checks are easily bypassed when neighboring states have weak gun laws.http://articles.chicagotribune.com/2013-02-17/news/ct-met-guns-gangs-20130217_1_levaine-tanksley-gun-laws-gun-traffickerWe need universal, nationwide background checks.

if they looked like this, unfortunately, Zimmerman would have been convicted in a few days. Or if he looked middle eastern, same thing. and if Trayvon were a white boy Zimmerman, as is, probably would have been too.I’m hoping for a day when we all become colorblind with each other. This case also is difficult is there seems to be no reliable witness. Still, for me, a boy with candy and a soda being pursued by a man in a truck with a gun and a racist bent, can’t be right.if nothing else, he provoked the fight.

Simply put: dozens of “same on same” violent incidents, and yes, murders, occur EVERY DAY in the U.S.. and they don’t get any press outside local areas, if they even get mention there. The media WILL pick an incident, often less relevant than many others, and drum beat it to death for weeks, or months, like the Anthony case, while hundreds of others, even more despicable, get nada.

“If it bleeds, it leads”, and that includes the Zimmerman “defense” of a minor scalp wound. The defense starting with a joke, then saying Martin WAS “armed”, with a cement sidewalk, proves Zimmerman is two things, guilty, and represented by an idiot seeking to defend his “Hispanic” client.

Hispanics are considered Caucasian (White). Hispanic is a heritage or a background NOT a separate race. Call Mr.Z whatever you to. He may be a mix or black and white and/or other races (Asian etc.) but Hispanic is not a race.

Please provide the link indicating the tape was edited to change the chain of events, Harley.Zimmerman called 911, reported Martin, and was told they “didn’t need him to do that.” There have been no reports that Zimmerman remained on the phone with 911 after that to my knowledge. The next 911 call was made by the woman who witnessed a man getting up off of another man and holding his head and stomach, the tape where the shot is heard.Did Zimmerman keep his line open to 911? If so, why is there no tape of that? It is MY understanding Zimmerman followed Martin for several minutes after he made the 911 call. If so, he could not have been turning back to his car under instructions by the operator because he wasn’t connected to 911.I agree with you in the context of the cartoon, but for different reasons. If Martin had been a white man killed by a black Zimmerman, Zimmerman would have likely gone immediately to jail.My facts are based on reports from four separate news outlets who agree on almost all of the points I made. I would like to see the link indicating that a fraud has been perpetuated by media outlets. Your comment about coming to “your own conclusion” applies equally to us all. I look forward to seeing proof that the confrontation between Zimmerman and Martin occured in the time span you indicate.Respectfully,C.

Harley: I’m not a nurse, that would be my daughter who’s an RN. I was only an EMT for three decades and treated many injuries more serious than Zimmerman’s with only a couple butterflies. In combat, law enforcement, and climbing rescues, as well as auto accidents, yes, I did see, and treat many injuries including compound fractures, traumatic amputations, serious burns, and other things like closed head injuries that led to death. Yes, I know injuries and triage, Zimmerman wasn’t in any serious trouble as noted:

The Physicians Assistant who treated Zimmerman and testified in court pointed out that his injuries were minor, and that the “bump” on his forehead wasn’t noted in her report, because it was more likely just part of his head shape than the result of injury. She also didn’t support his alleged broken nose. The surveillance tape of him coming into the police station showed no evidence of blood, or bandages on his head. Granted they may have cleaned him up, but his injuries at most were superficial. Martin on the other hand was a different story.

Sorry the “bump” was on the side of his head. really wish it was as easy to edit an error on GC as it used to be!

^He followed the kid, he was told to stop and let the police handle it. He was carrying a firearm. He confronted an unarmed individual, started a fight by his actions, and shot the kid. That is NOT "stand your ground’, or any form of self defense, it was homicide, even if he WAS losing the fight he started.

I also have experience besides law enforcement with guys like Zimmerman. Had to go to court because a guy accosted me, and when I turned my back, he hit me from behind. I had five stitches taken over my eye, he spent four months in a coma, and sixteen months in and out of the hospital. He picked the WRONG small G. I. to start a fight with. As the judge dismissed the case, he stated "Looks like the “B*****” finally got what he deserved. It turned out this 6’4" 320 lb football “star” had been beating up G.I.s from Ft. Benning for a long time. His dad was a city councilman, and the cops had been letting him go for ages. I didn’t need a gun, and wasn’t in a mood to take anything from the guy after surviving ’Nam. (I also started in martial arts when I was six years old and my neighbor had been all Japan champion around 1936 before moving to America. He started teaching me, and his daughter, my first “girlfriend”.)

Thank you for the link, Harley… however, I’m more interested in the timeline. If the tape was altered by NBC they’ll pay their penalty. What time was it that Zimmerman made the call to 911? What time was it when Zimmerman shot Martin? You said the 911 operator told Zimmerman to return to his car AFTER Zimmerman had left his car to confront Martin and when he turned to return to the car, Martin attacked. If that is the case, the time between first call and gunshot should be less than two minutes, even seconds. I never heard the “coons” story. I had heard the tape where he said punks. There was another tape where they bleeped out words so perhaps that is the one you’re speaking about. I also heard stories where Zimmerman said after he got out of his car to confront Martin, he tried to return to his car and Martin jumped him and that was why, as Zimmerman “ALLEGEDLY” said, Martin was on top of Zimmerman beating him. Testimony from the woman who made the second 911 call said after the shot, one man got off of the other one, which, according to courtroom reporters, was the only time Zimmerman actually reacted to testimony that day. If Zimmerman was on top of Martin, that would be in conflict with his statements.Thank you for sharing the cnn story, but if Zimmerman was told to quit following Martin and continued to do so PRIOR to getting out of his car to confront Martin, then I stand by my first statement.Too many news outlets manipulate stories for maximum sensationalism. If you are right, NBC is just the latest in a line of such abuses and will well deserve the penalties in “excess of what is allowed in the jurisdiction”.Also, I have admitted being wrong on several occasions in GC after the facts were fully known. If I am wrong about the time line between Zimmerman’s 911 call and the call from the lady where the gunshot and scream is heard, I will admit to being wrong there as well.If the timeline indicated I’m right, will you likewise recognize you were wrong?Zimmerman is the only one who survived the encounter.Respectfully, and grateful for the link,C.

@Harleyquinn “hiding his face lurking next to houses.” Where on earth did you come up with that? How has the media been proven to be liars? Do you have links for any of these theories?

And the term lame-stream media is so old even Sarah doesn’t use it anymore. (Not that I’ve heard her ridiculous ramblings lately). I’m curious as to why you seem to be obsessed with this case. Although the answer is fairly obvious.

onguard: try watching a little of the trial testimony, or even go back to some of what they’re showing now in the trial, that was made public shortly after the incident. (btw: much of it should NOT have been released at that time, but such is our modern “media” who don’t care if they get the innocent convicted, or the guilty released because of their meddling.)
