I like the officer who said that the physical requirements will not change because rocket propelled grenade launchers and other such heavy weapons only come in one size. If the PERSON can meet the physical/mental requirements, and WANTS the position, then there should be conflict except for the sexist who believes any woman who puts herself into such programs is “asking for it”. If we can put these women in with men instead of neanderthals, they’ll do our nation proud, and we should encourage them.Respectfully,C.
That is not the policy as described by General Dempsey, the head of the Army, Gore Bane. Your comment is unkind to the military and the men and women who are trying to serve at the highest levels. The physical requirements are to remain in place because the munitions weight and size will not change to reflect differing abilities. The women will also be required to be able to carry fellow soldiers out of harm’s way if incapacitated. They will not put women OR men who are unable to do the job in combat positions.You seem to have low regard for those who serve. Disappointedly,C.

Guess what? Carrying around telephone poles all day is NOT what SEALs do in the field, at all. It’s what’s between their ears that really matters in the jobs they actually do. BTW, my very feminine daughter out-performed all the men on the department in physical stamina testing when she became the first female firefighter/Paramedic in her county. I also served with a number of women firefighters who were very accomplished rock climbers, and could handle rescues much better than the majority of men.
Any woman seeking to be in the SEALs or any other “physical” profession MUST be capable of doing the job, period, and that greatly restricts the number of females who can, or should, get the job. However, looking at how many men in America today haven’t seen their belt buckles since the age of eleven, I wouldn’t be so down on females and their “weakness”.
