Allies to the rebels need to send one bullet delivered by the right person to Assad’s head. However – I share the fears of other commentators concerned about Americans being killed, costs to taxpayers, failure to arm/support an actual ‘friend’ to the US, and other concerns that have been expressed. Syria is becoming the chessboard on this decades cold war playing field. Proxy wars between enemies are underway and no matter who wins, the people of Syria, and the region in general, have already lost.Sadly, but Respectfully,C.
@Robert Landers…And here I thought you Left were concerned about human rights no matter where on Earth it was needed. But you just proved as long as politics come first.
Chemical weapons, MAYBE used on less than 200 people, compared to 93,000 + deaths, was an idiotic line to draw in the sand, and BOTH “parties” here in the U.S. bought into it. That we have no clue who will replace Assad, or what, doesn’t exactly support interfering in a CIVIL WAR.
btw: compare U.S. casualty figures in stopping Serbian atrocities to those in Grenada (to depose a government), Panama (to arrest one man), Iraq (to get one man), Afghanistan (to destroy a government WE put in power, and replace it with a man of OUR choice). “Death by misadventure” has long been more likely under Republican policies and commitments. (BTW: our real screwup that got us seriously into Viet Nam was in 1954 and “Ike’s people”, not the final stupid straw LBJ pulled out of the stack. Obama is just flirting with a straw man that Republicans and AIPAC have long been holding a match to in Iran. Assad is just “dupe of the day”.)
My comment is addressed to Nick Anderson:.Trip wires work only when the wire doesn’t snap. If it breaks, the pin won’t be pulled on the grenade. Bad analogy, Sir.
“Yes, since you have often said But Bush…. implies you opposed what Bush did and support Obama doing same thing Bush did”[]That is really convoluted, since not supporting Bush does not equate with supporting Obama. []I opposed what Bush did and I also oppose what Obama is doing.

Given the ongoing situation, I’d say that’s as effective as anything else.

We don’t need to be in Syria in any way, no weapons, no nothing. Let them sort it out.
