Cant we agree to disagree — in a civil non-insulting way?

Go ahead and give up your second amendment rights. Do you really think that’s the last one a power hungry government will try to demonize and ridicule until it becomes fashionable and acceptable to give it up? Wake up people!

Why are people so fanatical about gun control? They act like it’s a god given right to be able to own an assault rifle! Do these fanatics even read and understand the second amendment? Myself, I think “little” men need big guns to compensate. I am not knocking gun collectors, but how many guns does it take to defend yourself? Personally, I find my little .38 adequate. Would I be safer with an assault rifle? Get real… Nothing can change my mind, that assault weapons only belong in the hands of trained military or police personnel!

I wonder if the devastated parents of all of those children (both the ones killing, and the ones doing the killing) would then state “Well, at least my child’s 2nd amendment rights were not violated by the government!”

Do we actually have that many incredibly stupid owners of guns in this country?

When I was a child, I lived with my grand parents as both of my parents worked, and while they loved me a great deal, they did not wish me to be a “Latch-key child”! My grand father was a policeman In an era, when if a policeman walked into a group of noisy teenagers then they immediately became quiet, as there was an authority figure now in the room. He used to bring his .38 revolver home, and to my knowledge never unloaded it. He used to keep it on his night dresser, but I would never even think of even going into his room without his inviting me, let alone touching anything of his!

Years later when I was a teenager myself, he took me out to a dirt pile and set up a two by four, stood some ten feet in front of it and demolished it with one shot. He then said “You now see just how much even one shot can do, think about what it would do to you if you did not know how to use such a weapon!” He then showed me just everything a young person should know about gun safety.I really loved him, and miss his wisdom so much!!

Please do not even attempt to use the bible unless you have not only read it, but also have studied it with a good commentary such as Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible (which can be found in its entirety on the internet). For the verse that you quoted (with a totally incorrect interpretation), here is what that truly great Christian had to say:

“But the sword of the Spirit is the sword which the disciples of Christ must furnish themselves with. Christ having suffered for us, we must arm ourselves with the same mind (1 Peter iv. 1), arm ourselves with an expectation of trouble, that it may not be a surprise to us, and with a holy resignation to the will of God in it, that there may be no opposition in us to it: and then we are better prepared than if we had sold a coat to buy a sword. The disciples hereupon inquire what strength they had, and find they had among them two swords (v. 38), of which one was Peter’s. The Galileans generally traveled with swords. Christ wore none himself, but he was not against his disciples’ wearing them. But he intimates how little he would have them depend upon this when he saith, It is enough, which some think is spoken ironically: “Two swords among twelve men! you are bravely armed indeed when our enemies are now coming out against us in great multitudes, and every one with a sword!” Yet two swords are sufficient for those who need none, having God himself to be the shield of their help and the sword of their excellency, "

Christ was certainly NOT talking about his apostles obtaining the latest in materialistic military equipment!!

If you would actually wish to know just what Christ thought about materialistic weaponry, a far more appropriate verse would be: Matthew 26:52

"52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. "

While he was here, Christ was not against defending ones self with physical weapons, however that was NOT his mission. His mission was one of love and (strangely enough, a more liberal interpretations of just what life is all about) forgiveness, NOT hate and weapons!!

By the way, please be courteous enough when presenting bible quotes to actually give the quotes (or once again, a good commentary upon those quotes), don’t feel badly about my bringing this up as I also dislike it when people use such as NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) acronyms without presenting just what those acronyms actually stand for!!
