In answer to a couple of comments from yesterday….

    Yeah, that’s Stephan Pastis…..

He and Paige worked for Schulz for years; Paige still does.

So she teases him in JW by drawing him for “Shallow Breast Guy” ….who cluelessly hits on all the women…. not getting that they’re mostly gay.

Yesterday she had him ribbing her about not teaming up on a strip…funny partly cos he’s so much better known.

This party happens right after Dixie squanders the rent money…But in the current arc, Dixie left long ago ..So we’ve returned from the flashback to Sweden, and we’re back to Ethan’s break-up with Dixie….which is still a flashback…but not so far back….

The hippie chick is in the present…. we haven’t gotten back to that yet.

And Wes… what entitles you to announce that we need to “kickstart a comic strip artist’s brain block”?

Did Paige secretly tell you she’s doing a flashback because doesn’t have any fresh ideas?

Or that she owes you a certain amount of new work for the 0¢ a month you pay to read it?

Do you have a full time job and still find time turn out a daily strip for the ungrateful… and for free?

I’m just glad this isn’t a wrap up of Jane’s World.

Sorry to hear Paige has to work another job to help pay for her passion. (Boy that doesn’t sound right.).I do pay the yearly fee, but I don’t know how much that goes back to the talent.

I can kinda relate to Jane here. Chelle, for all her “bad attitude”, etc., is still someone she respects and cares about as a friend. And it no doubt bothers her to see Chelle with someone who is basically “TROUBLE” in all caps. With so many characters running around in this series over the years, Jill is possibly the only one I genuinely DISLIKE with every fibre of my being. You hate to see friends hurt themselves by not seeing what you can. (My best friend in art school married someone who ruined her life and made her miserable… and there wasn’t a damn thing I could do to stop it.)

If Schultz is hiring still, I may need to finish my Art Insrtructions Course to apply. Rats! Jane has passion for Chelle, if only a little. Chelle is the most interesting lover for Jane. Is Jill an alter ego or foil for Jane? I mean, they kind of look alike. Not identical twins, but you know…. Inquiring minds want to know.

If that’s Pastis why isn’t he making bad puns all over the place?

Errin Danielson:“Jane has passion for Chelle, if only a little. Chelle is the most interesting lover for Jane. Is Jill an alter ego or foil for Jane? I mean, they kind of look alike. Not identical twins, but you know…. Inquiring minds want to know.”

Now THAT is a very interesting observation! Although I only came in a few years ago, I started at the very beginning (thank God for reprint collections). Chelle knew Jill a long time before she ever met Jane. With Chelle’s attitude, it often seems like Jane would be the last person in the world she’d ever go out with. Yet, for awhile… she did. Is it possible Chelle saw Jane as a “kindler, gentler” (or “better”) version of Jill?

Perhaps Chelle, against her own instincts, found Jane attractive not for who she was, but for who she wasn’t… but then, on getting to know Jane, realized… “Nah!”

    Aw WayKirk… that’s sweet.Thanks.

And to others for their comments too….

JoeStoppingham…I pay too… but though paid in a yearly lump, it’s only 99¢ a month, or 3 cents a day.

There are well over 100 cartoonists here, so we each pay less than a penny per artist per month…50,000 paid subscribers, which I doubt there are, would generate well under $500 a month per artist if every penny went to them.

But as far as I know, it only helps defray the costs of this website… hosting, webmasters, moderators, editors…. all need to be covered.

For our 99¢ we don’t get the ads and pop-ups that otherwise generate that revenue.

hey Susan Sun-Shine – thanks for the earlyier wrap up – I had not seen Pastis here before so, i did not realize who that was at first. Now. does the 60’s chic have a name? is it Thalia? or rather who is Thalia that Ethan suggested to move into the house? in general terms, how many relationships has Jane had with the general population of her strip?

Chelle/Jane has always been interesting because it was wierdly fresh! Now, think of the possibilities of a Jane/Jill combo with mayo: I don’t know if you could tell them apart with their clothes off. Someone would have to douse the lights, or get Pastis to inflate their boobies and look for their reactions.

Maybe the decomposing Schultz would like to draw them. It doesn’t sound like there’s been a new Peanuts strip in years.

Jane & Jill could never happen. While Jane has displayed that she COULD wind up with almost anybody, under the right circumstances and mixture of attitudes, Jill is not one of them. Why? Because Jill has been aggressively RUDE to Jane from their first time they crossed paths. “Not interested” is one thing, but such blatent bad behavior is one thing sure to turn EVEN Jane completely off. (How Jill has wound up with so MANY different women over time is a total mystery to me…)
