I’ll be a little disappointed if at this point Linda doesn’t break in with something to this effect:
“This is the point where you try to accuse me of helping the topsiders just because I used to be one of them, right? Well I’m not, and unless you have some really good evidence to support that accusation, you’re just going to make even more of a fool of yourself than you already have by participating in this farce.”
Oh goodie… here comes the “He knows” moment for Friday. Someone is giving classified security information to them that is supposed to be secret. Now I wonder who could have done that… oh wait…
He is going to use this tactic to discredit Linda. She is strong like Maude and makes a good showing. Allgood discredited Maude by saying she had low self esteem and her husband used it to get milk in the pretense of making her feel valued. Allgood took Maude down using her late husband.Holly was displayed as just weak for cheese and an opportunist relying on Maude to be sympathetic to those BIG eyes going please.Linda is different and he knows it. He is going to expose her as an Ex-Topsider once responsible for hunting down the very folks she lives with now. They in town do not know her history. He hopes this past history will taint her strength and the folks of Endtown will demand her blood not on the cake but on the fact of her history.Now instead of fighting in the streets over mutant by product usage they will begin to fight over accusations of being an ex-Topsider. Just like in our McCarthy Hearings of the 50’s it will spread paranoia that ex-Topsiders are in their midst. Soon Endtowner will accuse Endtowner of being Ex-Topsiders demanding blood or expulsion.This happened in our universe in the McCarthy Hearings. He said he had a list of 200 in the State Department he knew were Communists. Instead of turning the names over to the FBI he held his own hearings running baseless accusations at folks. It raised a paranoia that nearly tore the Country apart. It took Eisenhower to personally go in and shut McCarthy down. McCarthy ran off many of our greatest folks like Charlie Chaplin. There was a Hollywood Blacklist of “Communists” that McCarthy had made without any positive truth. McCarthy even accused the entire Democratic Party of being a subversive group with lots of communists.I did say Allgood “bears” a striking resemblance to McCarthy. The question is how is Endtown going to handle these revelations?
I wonder if Allgood realizes that he’s treading on dangerous ground? He may feel that he is winning the argument because he bested a tired & shocked Holly, browbeat a widow with accusations of being used by her late husband and is now playing the exTopsider card against Linda. He seems to be losing the battle for hearts and minds if Monday’s strip seems to be anything to go by. His latest accusation may shock people into hating Linda but it could easily tear the society apart. It also could also lead to questions about publicizing confidential information.
How long has it been (in Endtown time) since Linda was trying to put Holly in the brain-harvester. No one has to “discredit” Linda. She did harvest Endtowner brains not long ago. And, enthusiastically. What I wonder now is if Linda was percieved as a tool by the Dark High Council the moment she appeared. How much of this situation has been engineered, including the need for the cake?

The accusations in Endtown first went on about being on Allgood’s side. Now they could begin to accuse each other of being an ex-Topsider leading to more violence. I don’t think Allgood sees that. He is wanting to discredit Linda like he did Holly and Maude. He wants to make her not so trustworthy in the eyes of the audience. This can backfire to the extreme. Not only has Allgood struck the match for the powder keg of distrust of being on the Allgood side or Jacob side. He is kick stomping on the land mine of distrust of being an Ex-Topsider living/hiding in Endtown beside it.I believe that Allgood does not have clue this is going to happen. He believes this will all lead to banning mutant products. His primary purpose for the trial to begin with.The fact is this trial is to start a blood bath like the Council said but not about mutant products. And for today’s Endtown: almost always when I try to guess where the story is going, it goes somewhere else. But after Maude was cowed and Holly made meek as a mouse I figured it was up to Linda to be feisty and furious. Glad to see that just this once I was right. (batting .001)
