The guns laws as they are now make it easier for the bad guys and harder for the good guys to stop them. I am starting to think some of the fools that make those gun laws are in fact working for the wrong side.
3d printing and “smart guns” are going to change this debate. It would be beneficial to law enforcement and our neighbors for background checks to be made nationwide, however, over the next few years, we will see 3d printing machines come down in price, the quality of the products made improved, and the availability of items created widened. At that point, gun makers themselves may become superfluous as people have their plastic and ceramic and metal weapons custom made for style and purpose. This cartoon shows one extreme. There are people who feel the cartoon doesn’t go far enough because the gun owner still owns a gun. Why is our nation being led by extremists? Whether from the left or the right, a minority of very loud, very uncivil, and very aggressive individuals are grabbing the attention of the media and the rest of America is left to believe we have two choices… the hard right, or the hard left. There are other choices. Compromise, experimentation, and education – these choices, combined with civility and respect, once birthed a nation. The lack of civility and respect may well bring that same nation down.Respectfully,C.
Headline this morning; 5 confirmed dead in shooting rampage including the gunman. ’Yesterday afternoon in Santa Monica, CA, man was standing on a street corner with an AR-15 rifle shooting at vehicles including a city bus. He attempted to carjack at least two passing cars. Later he was fatally shot by police in the library of the Santa Monica College. This left two passersby dead on the street and two more bodies were found in a home that were believed to be the father and brother of the gunman. ’Off hand I’d say that Lisa Benson has got to have possibly the most piss poor timing of anyone I’ve ever seen judging by the content of her (not so) comic strip this morning.
That’s one of the MOST absurd replies I’ve yet seen! Did I SAY we shouldn’t have any rules? OR did you NOT understand my clear meaning of enforcing the laws we ALREADY have? Hello!!!! McFly!!!!! Anybody home????
What new gun laws?I looked it up and it is not clear to me.Apparently a California law was passed in 2007 That involves "microstamping’ . The law has just recently been implemented.
Well, that just ain’t going to fly….are you going to lock away every gun, rock, 2×4, stick, bat, knife, broadsword, car, broken bottle, poison (i.e. drano), etc etc etc etc etc? A criminal bent on killing isn’t going to stop just cause he can’t shoot a bullet. No use wishing guns never existed, fact is they DO, and now how are we going to deal with it keeping them away from the people that shouldn’t have them?
I find it interesting that if one makes a comment about a right-wing cartoonist being conned by such as the NRA (there are only a little over 300 “gun laws” in the U.S., not “thousands” as they keep claiming) it becomes an “Insult” to all the righties, so they launch a fusillade of insults on anyone even slightly “left”.
As a gun owner, and member of a gun owners caucus (Democrats no less), I don’t feel put upon or fearful for any of the proposed laws, especially those from the extreme “anti-gun folks” that don’t have a ghost of a chance of passing the House or Senate.
I don’t see a problem with registration of firearms equivalent to our cars and motorcycles, or mandatory background checks on anyone buying a firearm, just as we license drivers. Yes, Switzerland has lots of gun owners in their “militia” and those guns are monitored. Israel also has lots of guns, and lots of restrictions.
We DO need a rationale debate, and rational additions to the legal structure regarding firearms. The “crazies” btw, are NOT the real danger, but everyday “Joe”, who MAY flip out, or NOT control who has access to his firearms. Even “assault weapons” (no I don’t like the term) are a rarity in the homicides and suicides that kill over 30 people every day in the U.S., but limiting magazine capacity DOES restrict the ability of “bad guys” to gain access to weapon SYSTEMS, that let them outgun police, or third graders, or movie theatre patrons.

Benson is a lot more like Wyle Coyote than the road runner. She buys Acme, but gets outsmarted on every issue.

“A national registry of every single gun owner…which criminals and semi-criminals fear.”
Seriously? You actually think criminals who flaunt all laws to begin with will line up and register themselves as gun owners?

It’s ironic how you cite the lack of respect….right after slurring conservitives in the previous sentence…
