The act called for a unified transplant network to be operated by a private, non-profit organization under federal contract. ..so, the policies of this “Private sector” Non-Profit contractor, chartered under Reagan…nearly 30 years ago…is the “Death Panel” of Obamacare ??? Another Harley Fantasy.

Hate to tell you this, but insurance companies have been doing the same thing for decades. Regardless of who provides the money, there will be someone who is in charge of deciding how much is too much.
There are other considerations. Remember the story of Baby Faye? Doctors gave her a baboon’s heart. Lots of press conferences, lots of face time. Pioneers in medicine. Forget the fact that baboons don’t live nearly as long as humans, nor do they get above 90 pounds. Surprise: Baby Faye died. Sometimes the doctors are not as altruistic as they seem.
Lungs are not my specialty, but there may be certain health considerations regarding the use of adult lungs in a child. They have to be made smaller, for one thing. How do you do that without damaging them? Can you be sure they will grow with the child? They were once adult-sized; are they finished growing?
I have a friend with endstage liver disease. He can’t get on a transplant list because he can’t breathe easily because his lungs keep filling with fluid. If they provide a transplant for him, he won’t make it through recovery. Cruel? Certainly. Practical? You bet. He understands, preferring not to go through a lot of effort to get to the same place.
There’s a lot we won’t know about this situation, but basing health care decisions on public opinion is not the way to handle things. Remember Terry Schaivo.
Health care is prioritized, usually for a reason. The best we can do is ensure that reason is honorable.
