When I joined the navy one of the guys in my BT unit had an afro, watched the barbers nearly get into a fist fight over who got to shave him.

the day we got out of school,mom would give us boys a buzz cut. cleaner,cooler less mess.by start of school it had grown back, most kids got one.

I used to cut the hair of my 3 sons as well as husband. I had good utensils back then. I think I left both scissors when I moved (and machine was too old, as was the circular cape with rim). I now always cut my own (can’t afford beauty shops- or would rather buy art materials and such). I use my good sewing shears for my hair, and save the clippings for costume pieces like this:
