This took decades of neglect, much the fault of STATE legislators and voters, NOT JUST FEDS! Many of our dilapidated infrastructure has nothing to do with “feds” running the show, even if they do contribute funds through the states.
If I won that powerball thing, I’d fund my own jobs program for the park system, and a bridge repair crew. Surely it would help some until the money ran out. As it is, I keep fixing sidewalks in my neighborhood by myself.
I’m presently camped in GypsyWagon at Fort Peck, Montana, site of the largest hydraulic-fill earth dam in the world. When it was built in 1933 -1937 it was the largest dam in the world – four miles long, 3/4 mile wide, 250’ high. Earth moving equipment to handle that much earth did not exist. So they barged and piped in the earth in a slurry from as far away as seven miles. Roads, railroads, power lines, and barges did not exist in the area, so they built them on-site. Many would say this project was impossible It was FDR’S largest New Deal Project built by the U.S. Corps of Engineers under the Public Works Program. The project provided jobs for 10,000 workers and thousands more in spin-offs. The project not only provided the employment that helped lift the country from the Great Depression, it will provide benefits for generations in hydro generation, tourism, water control, and enhanced agriculture..My point: America has lost the spirit, the will, and the imagination to solve big problems with big ideas. Instead they haggle incessantly and without end over the irrelevant. Where was the President and what was he doing when four Americans were killed in a war zone where they shouldn’t have been in the first place? Why was the IRS investigating questionable practices? Why was the administration trying to stem leaks? I swear, if Obama spit on the street it would lead to a Special Congressional Investigation. Meanwhile infrastructure crumbles and the Nation falls further into the abyss.
Well, yes there is some truth in what you say. An example being the Keystone Pipeline. It will eventually be built, but years later than it was initially determined to be safe, necessary, and contributing to economic development..Concluding that the stimulus benefited only unions is a tad cynical. Those union workers were hired by private businesses who profited considerably from the stimulus..There are now ample infrastructure projects that could be approved, but you will not have a Republican house approving funding from which Obama might get credit.
In Davie, FL, the town council had a bridge built that was supposed to be for equestrian and foot traffic.Nobody on the council looked at the plans, and the construction company built a bridge for cars.It is ugly brown-painted steel, has never been used and it is FOR SALE.I wrote to a couple of editors asking if anyone had thought about using the bridge in Washington State.It is 90 feet long, $111,250 plus $17,400 shipping.

The Democrats controlled both the Senate, the House, and the Presidency but nothing was accomplished except ObamaCare. Both parties are garbage.
