The USPS has one of the largest fleets of alternative fuel vehicles in the country, and has been at the forefront of energy savings for years. How bout Harley only going out to work three days a week and see how long his company stays in business. Three days a week would save nothing, because advertisers would have to find oither ways to get their info out, which means more people using more vehicles as companies pop up to cover the shortfall. Just how many hanging flyers do you want on your fence?
Take a look at the bonuses and unfunded retirement plans for the Postal Board of Governors and the Postmaster General since 1992. The billions of dollars poured into that hole is one BIG reason the Postal Service is broke. Started with the first private sector CEO being appointed Postmaster General, Marvin Travis Runyon.
Keep raising postage rates until the agency breaks even. This will encourage people to use e-delivery and discourage retailers from sending catalogs. Less paper usage would be better for the environment. The reduced mail would eventually result into fewer USPS jobs (incl management) and postal locations; end result is lower expenses.
If more people realized that when Congress kills the post office it will cost $8 to mail a letter, then maybe we could get rid of some of these RWNJs.(spell check changed my CON)
Maybe because Pelosi was a very successful leader of the house, and got a lot of good laws passed? “If John Boehner were a woman, they’d be calling him the worst speaker of the house ever.”
Where’s Kevin Costner when we need him?Where is the money that the USPS had to prepay for future employees? Is it in a pension fund, or has Congress used it to fund “emergencies”? This requirement is an assault on a vital service. While emails and social media may make the USPS less important in the short run, the internet is vulnerable to cyber attacks, solar flares, and natural disasters. There comes a time when men and women working in a post office might be the only way for certain types of information or products can arrive. This is a valuable part of our infrastructure and it deserves protection from the cannibalistic Congress that is mismanaging our postal service.Respectfully,C.
The government is NOT running our health care; the insurance companies are, and they are not doing it on behalf of the public, they are doing it to fill their pockets.
This government shouldn’t be trusted with running a lemonade stand, much less any sort of public service.
But considering the taxes paid by our grossly underemployed citizens, we might reasonably expect some services.
Or is the reason we pay taxes really to line the pockets of the politicians and support corporate CEOs?
Letter carriers work a 5-day week; mail is delivered 6 days-a-week. For every 5 routes there are 6 carriers; that is 5 carriers and a “flex”.
Eliminating Saturday delivery will allow the reduction of the work force, eliminating the flex worker. This will save money.
Also, it is little realized that the carrier’s day off rotates; Monday this week, Tuesday next week and so on. This makes it very difficult to organize life’s schedules, to go to school or other activities, and that Saturday off comes once every 5 weeks.
This crazy work schedule is sometimes blamed for workers “going postal”.
Letter carriers should be allowed to have a standard 5-day work week. Eliminating Saturday delivery will do this.

The government is NOT running our health care; the insurance companies are, and they are not doing it on behalf of the public, they are doing it to fill their pockets.
