Romney/Obama Care is like a car that needs to be recalled by the builders. You don’t take the car away from the person to whom it belongs, you fix it, or replace it with something better. It’s time for the administration and legislature to start working together on this very important issue.Respectfully,C.

Actually, Obamacare is lowering insurance costs substantially in California and Oregon (notably, these are states that are interested in making it work). Prices are likely to be similar in other blue states. The Republicans are going to be chagrined when their hard work destroying Obamacare makes their states (surprise!) considerably less competitive than states that will have near-universal coverage.

It would have cost less to just go out in the free market and buy health insurance for those who don’t have it.

Hello Neighbors,I hate using partisan news sources, but this was the first one I found that confirmed a story I heard on the radio.^http://www.motherjones.com/kevin-drum/2013/05/competitive-pricing-oregon-test-case-obamacare^The gist of the story is in this line -“…a comparison of proposed 2014 health premiums became public online, causing two insurers to request do-overs to lower their rates even before the state determines whether they’re justified.”^This one feature of the healthcare bill allowed your friends, family, and neighbors to comparison shop and in response, two insurers cut the price of the premiums.^There are many more benefits in this bill, but let me be clear….THIS IS NOT THE BEST PRODUCT for our nation. It is just the best we can do with the legislators we have at the moment. Mr. Obama has expressed his willingness to have sensible changes made to the plan.^Please realize that we are already being taxed by the hospitals who must overcharge those who can pay in order to compensate for the many people they serve who cannot pay. If the parties can come together and repair this “car”, our nation will benefit greatly. I am sorry the Republicans want to simply get rid of the car without replacing it with a viable alternative. The proposals I’ve seen from the right reduce services and access. The proposal from the left has problems and needs repair. But then, so does our legislature.Respectfully,C.

I’ve been in one union or another since 1973 and after about 20 years it finally occurred to me that the republican who said “I hate unions and I’m going to screw you every chance I get” was more honest than the democrat who said “You’re our buddy so vote for me”, and then screwed us every chance they got!It only took about 10 more years to realize that neither one of them has anyone’s best interest at heart except their own and will do or say anything to remain in power. The sooner the rest of you figure that out, the better off we’ll ALL be!

The simple fact is that the cost increasing features of ACA (requiring PRIVATE insurance companies) and other laws refusing to allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices, should be called “Boehner don’t care”.

Yes, too long a bill, with many flaws remaining, but inserted by REPUBLICAN legislators in House and Senate.

“in fact do anything to hinder efforts by this president that may improve the lot for the average American, "

There was a time, within my lifetime, when people helped themselves. As Progressivism spreads, people seem to be able (and motivated) to do less and less for themselves. It’s always the other guy’s fault, isn’t it?

California is all but bankrupt. God only knows where the money will come from to pay for this.

    Q for Obamacare supporters:

So Americans should expect the federal treasury to cover lifetime health insurance? Including all the foreigners being welcomed into the USA by Democrats and the Obama administration?-It is, IMO, the most modern version of Tooth Fairy and Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny…..myths for a nation of Dependents.-IMO the best system for any society is God’s Plan; in the Founders’ Liberty and Individual Rights to learn, work and earn and support himself/herself and family, provide personal insurance coverage of choice in a competitive market.-Any Government safety net should be for the citizens with provable inability to earn income for needs. With follow-up checking of annual status. No one else, including elected representatives in state and federal government, should have their healthcare paid by taxpayers. Personal Responsibility should be taught in each year in schools of America. -The false separation of God from State should be ended. God and Bible should be put back into public education in all schools, with God as the only true Provider for each and every citizen that asks Him. God directed my every test and treatment for serious illnesses, in the years I paid private insurance and in the years after I was forced into Medicare and prevented from keeping private insurance. God is active to bless believers, and wants everyone to know and trust Him as #1 loving Father who gave His only Son as Saviour to atone for sin. Living a lifetime on earth is part of God’s Abundant Life for believers

Well, yes, they certainly should read every bill before they vote on it period. ALL of every bill.

But I guess that would be too much work. On both sides of the aisle.

People die in this country because they can’t afford to access a doctor even for a diagnosis. ERs offer bandaids and Acetaminophen, so if you happen to have undiagnosed cancer or a rotten gall bladder, good luck to you.

Granny and Granpa were thrown under this country’s bus years ago, and it’s gotten no better.

    I don’t know, Wraithkin.

My husband and I are on fixed incomes. We own pets, and wear glasses and dentures.

Before my husband retired, we had ‘good’ medical coverage, which did cover all our medical costs, until 2006. Vision and dental care were pretty much out-of-pocket, some services being covered to 50%, but only some. My husband had his lower teeth cleaned to the tune of $400 once; that ‘deep cleaning’ wasn’t covered, and his dentist refused to work on his teeth until they had been cleaned. Back then, we could afford it, though it wasn’t good news.

On Medicare, what is covered and how much is more restrictive, and Medicare covers only 80% anyway. Sounds good – until you figure the cost of heart surgery, MRI diagnostics and other services that can leave you with multiple five figure bills. On SS income, that becomes impossible very quickly.

The insurers aren’t the right way to go on health care. Health care isn’t in their mandate; profits are their mandate. Health care managed by the insurers will never be good for anyone who isn’t independently wealthy.

    Yes, all true.

But it wasn’t Obama’s billl, it was the GOP’s bill, by the time it was passed.

I agree that it is a total horror, and a very strong candidate for a repeal.

Wraithkin said: Healthy people will not get the insurance until they get sick; it’s cheaper for them to pay the penalty every year (off their tax returns, no less) than it is for them to pay the monthly premiums. -All great points and wait and see how much the penalties (oops, I meant tax) go up in a few years in this deceptive, mess of a lies and deceipt. Costs will be outrageous either way to pay for this monstrosity.

“And the GOP is going to run the next election on the promise to take it away from them.”No, the GOP is going to run the next election claiming it was their idea all along. They just need to make some tweaks to maximize profits… er, I mean benefit controls.

“You libs should read the news papers from London,England. There are stories all the time about folks dying because they were denied care for things that could easily be cured if they had only gotten medical care early on.”In the US, that’s not considered ‘news’ because it happens all the time.
